Chipper MacKissic 12PPT10 groove pin - HELP!!

Hi - I am in the process of reversing the rotor assembly hammers on my Mackissic 12PT10 shredder. Some spacers missing also. In order to flip the hammers you have to remove the groove pins. I sprayed pins with WD40 and tried removing pins using a hammer and drift pin. Having no luck removing them.

Can anyone suggest another method for removing pins? I was thinking heat might help but not sure.

Some pics would help. If your talking about the pins that hold the hammers on, mine came out thru an access hole on the pulley side. It's been a while but I don't remember them coming out hard.

I had to get a long 12" punch to get the pins out. Look at them real good to make sure you are hammering them out and not in. After the first one, it got easier.

Hi - Thanks for the response. Looks like the pins are grooved only at one end. I am Hitting to end of the pin opposite the grooves which I think is correct ?

Here are a few photos showing how I set up shredder for pin removal and a closeup of one of the pins. I have been hitting the end of the pin that has the very narrow groove.

From what I see your having trouble getting the roll pins out of the hammer shafts. Try putting some heat to the the shaft where the pin goes thru. They should just pound out. I assume you found the access hole in the front panel to slide the shafts thru. If you call MacKissic they'll e-mail you a parts blow out for your chipper.

There is a distributor in Pa. that keeps commom replacement parts in stock and ready to ship . I can't recall their name, but MacKissick will give you their number. When I replaced my hammers, I made them myself out of flat stock (and lightly sharpened them) for about half what a set of hammers cost. No vibrations, and they shred the crap out of brushy stuff.

P.S. I could no longer buy the small, tapered hopper for the chipper portion, if anyone has an extra..............................

I bought new hammers, spacers, groove pins, and a knofe kit from them in 2009. Prices were better than most.
