If it doesn't leak, it isn't hydraulic... PERIOD

It is not only the cyl that leak down, but the valve also. It all amounts what you can accept, and there is a drops per minute leak rate, to determine the good/OK verses bad /replace.

Most people do not know to ask about the leak down rate. They could raise five new loaders in the air, and maybe one will still be up the next day.

It would be a good idea to release all the hyd so all booms, etc are on the ground for safety.

So i parked my L3800 with BH77 last night with the boom all the way up and curled in and when i got up this morning it was on the ground. Is this normal? the dealer said that its normal for it to fall a certain amount per hour? i think this is crap how can a new machine do this?

 Hmmmmm not sure why anyone would leave a bucket in the air with no one around, SAFETY !

I'll throw my 2 cents at this - Whenever a tractor is shut off everything should be lowered to the ground so if the valve levers move nothing else does. On a backhoe, the transport lock can be used - but resting it on earth is safe and easy.

I was just going to jump in and say "I thought we were supposed to ALWAYS leave them DOWN when not in use?"

Thanks for the clarification!

Do you mean just visible leaks or are you including internal leaks or bypassing?

Please read and remember J_J's advice...

ALWAYS lower implements to the ground...you just never know...kids could come around and push a lever...while one of them was under the suspended implement.

Yes it might never happen but could...err on the side of safety...

Another reason is holding pressure in the system is wear and tear on the hoses, valving, seals and pivots. Still mainly for safety though ... Loader forks or bucket on the ground, nothing to walk into at head level. Would you leave a rake laying on the ground tines up ??
