I was wondering if someone here that has a 955 with the JD oil filter on it could measure the height of the oil filter for me. This sounds like a screwy request, but I have not ever had the engine side covers on my 955 since I bought it. I was finally able to track down a of side covers and tried to put them on last night. The left side fits fine, but the right side cover hits on the oil fliter. Yes, I do have the correct side cover with buldge for the oil filter.

My interference issue could one of two things... 1) My tractor does not have the JD filter on it and the aftermarket filter may be taller than the JD original. 2) My tractor does not have the original 3TN84 (87 cu. in.) engine in it, it has a 3TNE88 (100 cu. in.) engine. The oil filter on this engine might stick out further.

I don't have a 955 but this is what JDparts.com shows and I'll bet it's width x length

Wix filter site shows their 51334 for your 955: 3.194" height x 3.250" OD

WIX Filters : Filter Look-Up

Note: JD# M801209 filter does cross to Wix 51334.

Keep in mind that my 955 does not have the original engine... it still has a 3-cyl Yanmar in the 3TN family, but it is a bigger (displacement wise) engine. I need to comfirm that 3TNE88 uses the same filter as the original 3TN84. Pretty sure that is does.

BTW... JD# M801209 has been replaced by M806419.

EDIT: That Wix site was actually quite useful. JD Parts states M801209 for the 955, and that M801209 has been replaced by M806419. The Wix site references Wix# 51334 for the 955, but is designates Wix# 51064 for the 4400 & 4410 (both of which use the 3TNE88 engine). The Wix site also references the JD# M806419 number in conjunction with the Wix# 51604.

Other than some slight dimensional differences between the two Wix filters, the 51064 has a higher by-pass valve setting, a considerably higher burst pressure, and a slightly higher Nomial Micron Rating. Both the 51064 and the 51334 have the same size threads and gasket dimensions.

All three of these filters: JD# M806419, Wix# 51334, and Wix# 51064 are about 3/4" to 1" shorter than the Napa filter that is currently on my tractor. If I switch to either of the three filters listed above, my side engine cover will clear the filter without any problems.

M806419 crosses to Wix 51064 which is 2.94" H x 3.24" OD. Looking it up under off-highway/john Deere/tractors/engine= Yanmar 3TNE88 shows same 51064 filter (same as 4410 Deere.).

Wow... called the local auto parts store... they have the Wix 51064 on the shelf @ $12.49/each. JD lists their M806419 for $8.25/each. This is the second time that I've found Deere filters to be cheaper than Wix filters at the auto parts store.

Third time for me ... Deere mower, tractor and backhoe oil filters less expensive than aftermarket (baldwin)

That does seem steep and I would certainly buy the OEM for that price if I did not have to drive 20 miles each way.

I buy filters online (Home page) and recall the 51064 being about $7.50 (my 4500 uses that filter), but my login there no longer valid due to email change.

They show up as $7.27/ea with a $5 shipping fee. Not worth it to order just one. But if I ordered new air filter, a couple of hydro filters, a couple oil filters, etc. on one order, it could become worth it.
