How many had to cut tiller PTO shaft?

I found that I couldn't cut the shaft on my snowblower. If I were to cut it short enough so it wouldn't bottom out I would have lost most of my female side leaving only about 1 inch of drive square. I ended up installing a removable stop on the 3-point lever instead of buying a shorter shaft.

The reason you are cutting the shaft would be because it is too long and male and female is butting at both ends. If you only cut the female part then the male is still to long and will butt at the end and vise versa. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

The reason I added the part about cutting off older sq/rectangular pto shafts is because not every reader on this forum has the newer type(across the pond) pto shafts.

It's been awhile (1995) since I got a Bush Hog RTS40 tiller for my B7100 and yes, I cut both ends of the driveshaft, as the manual said to do. At the time, I didn't have a sawzall handy, but it really wasn't hard to do with a manual hacksaw with the shaft in the bench vise.

Picked up the RTR0550 Saturday, got it mounted, and did not have to cut the shaft--it fit the 2320 perfectly!
