CATCH them and make them PAY. Legally, of course.

And then again, you may create someone bent on payback. IF you can get something done legally. With a remote piece of land that you cannot constantly watch, you really do not want to create enemies.

Make it difficult to trespass and put up signs, but be careful about creating enemies.

Lists of Endangered Species: Mississippi - EndangeredSpecie.com
Make a sign that says
"No atvs, (insert endangered species name( Habitat.
Under federal statue 100023a there is a 250,000 dollar fine and
immediate impounding of any vehicle found disturbing the habitat."
just make the sign look real it will keep out some.
Fencing and cams will also add to the illusion

Problem is that someone may believe the sign, start a campaign to save the poor imaginary creature and get a law passed that prevents the owner from touching his property until he can prove the species has recovered to the point they are a nuisance again.

Barbed wire fence & some cows. I don't think many will bust in to a fence & let your cows to escape ... Not that I've ever heard of anyway. If any of you have, post that story!

This should get you an ag tax exemption, too.

Dropping a few trees across the dirt bike trails worked for me. When the trespassers found out they had to get out of the saddle to move brush and logs, they went elsewhere. I blocked the trails about every 50 feet, so even if they got around one the next one would ruin their fun.

Sadly, the OP would probably have to deal with cattle rustlers if he's not able to be there to protect them!

Maybe he could fence it & then lease it to a cattle farmer - Let him worry 'bout the rustlers.

You could post a Rattle Snake Santuary sign and scatter motion activated audio players with the rattle sound on them all over the place. Just saw an ad for a very cheap unit from china. $0.02 per unit minimum 5000 units FOB. For just a hundred bucks plus shipping you could have a few thousand rattlesnakes guaranteed not to actually kill anyone.

Find out the law in the state. The state extension office can help.

In NC, if you post the land per the statute you are somewhat protected from lawsuits if someone gets hurt on the land. If not posted, then you have more liability.

I think the legislature change the NC law so that I can now use purple paint to mark the land. If so that will be better than signs.

A hunt club is a good idea.

As other suggested, I would cut down trees to block access. They might clear them but it will take work.

There was a post on TBN years ago about a guy with similar problems. He used heavy equipment to berm and ditch the easy access points to his land. The &*()%$%%& used heavy equipment to fill in part of the ditch and get over the berm.

I just saw a headline where a horse was killed when it wandered into a road. It got out of the pasture because someone stole the gate.

There is only so much you can do. Make it has hard as possible for them to access the place is about the best you can do. If I really had a problem I would start looking at Locust or other plants I could cheaply plant that would grow a living fence. It would not have value so it would not be stolen but would be a real PITA to get through. It would take time of course but there are not very good options in this kind of a situation.

Later,
Dan

Even this didn't work 100% for East Germany.

Just try to make it unattractive for their activities.
