Sherwin Williams purple on the trees or fence posts in a visible location spaced no more than 100' apart across the front of your property is a legal posting to keep out. Game cameras might be a good idea. I say nail them to the wall.

Get the property declared a nature habitat by the local Farm Bureau of Forrest Bureau. PROPERTY PATROLLED BY LEGALLY BLIND BROTHERS, Jack SMITH & Jim WESSON.

were is the property located I live in north mississippi and I know of several roads that have always been "public" that I personly ride ATV's They have always been used for trail rideing the woods on either side were posted through a hunting club The road itself is a county road but no auto could ever make it through without 40" rubber
I would put up a sign with a cable across if I did not want them there
sure there gonna go around but its worth a shot
I would not go on anyones land without permission
Before I actually owned land and was a teenager I saw it as no big deal but now I would not go around the cable, open the gate, or onto personal property
They maybe viewing it as "public" land and simply may no know or to lazy to open the gate
anyway good luck

In MS property is naturally posted I was told by a game warden that was checking the landfill for us. One of my friends lets his absentee land be managed by a beagle hunting club and they keep most atvs and tresspassers out.

:please take my reply in retrospective that I am not, in any way, an expert regarding ALL legal issues. If you declare your property as a Nature Habitat through the Forestry Division--whether local, state or federal--would entail registering said documentation with your county Court Clerk. This would possibly aid in lessening your personal liability in preventing illegal trespassing on your land and aid in enforcement policies, but would it not limit the future use of your own plans and desires that you, yourself, want to implement on the use of your property by yourself in the future? Just a thought. Futhermore in regards to the implementation of steps taken to prevent the illegal trespassing suggested previously, in my opinion, should involve a large amount of thinking over and researching possible legality issues. Just a thought. 14 years ago, when we first purchased our property here, we had difficulty in obtaining proper and needed insurance. This was because there was no house or structures on the property and we also lived in Florida at the time and not in North Carolina where our land is located. I finally obtained insurance through State Farm. The agent showed me a newspaper article and a copy of the court records involving a case in a County located two counties from me. THIS IS A TRUE STORY. One night a couple were sleeping in their own home, and were awakened by the apparent sound of glass breaking. The husband grabbed his pistol and rushed to the origin of the disturbance, which was in an extra bedroom used for storage. Not knowing what caused the breaking glass, he yelled that he had a gun and would shoot. The homeowner opened the door and quickly turned on the light, thus startling the intruder. The intruder hastily climbed out the window that he had broken to gain entrance to their home. As a result, the intruder while trying to escape, cut his arm on the broken glass and severed some nerves in one of his arms. I remember the outcome quite vividly. The intruder received probation and his attorney sued the Homeowner for damages inflicted on his client. The intruder and his attorney won the lawsuit, claiming that as a result, the intruder would not be able to work in the future. Even though the Homeowners were completly in the right, they lost the case. Their insurance company had to pay over $400,000.00 -- yes FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS. I am an advocate of my and everyone's right to protect their property and their lives, but in a lot of instances, the courts think differently. The case was appealed and the INTRUDER still won. So sorry about the somewhat lengthly reply, but I just wanted to perhaps aid you in finding the solution to your problem. I, myself, would have shot the SOB and waited before I called the EMT'S and Sheriff's Dept. Just a thought. Good luck and Happy Tractoring. from Creekbend.:tractor::tractor:

I have the same situation. Have acreage in western Washington that I only get to visit once a year if I'm lucky.
Everyone else seems to be enjoying it more than me....I've seen vehicles/4wheelers/dirt bike tracks, along with someone actually having the nads to dump a wrecked vehicle on the property, stash some 5' marijuana plants, and several campfire/campsites. They actually knocked down my heavy-duty metal access gate to the property.
I rented a dozer and moved some dirt to block access, and put up some concrete barriers to the entrance, which seemed to block most of the vehicle traffic.
I posted dozens of "no trespassing" signs, only to return the next year and find them all removed. even 30' up in a tree. I guess if they take done the posts then it's OK to trespass.
Block the access as much as you can, post signs, see if you can get a group in or hunters. I like the idea of "shooting range" signs.....

good luck!

If you do something like spiking the road, you may make them mad at you and they may cause serious damage.

The company I retired from owned a million acres of Florida panhandle forest land. They did not take action against trespassers, not even ones that built houses on the property! They were afraid of people getting mad and starting forest fires. Just something to consider :(

I live in southwest tn about 4 mi from mississippi state line. We have and still do ride atv's everywhere my advice to u is leave it alone these people have been riding atv's for years and if u do piss them off they will destroy your property. A fence, cable, steel gate is not going to keep someone out. A winch on an atv can get you anywhere plus cost u more money. If someone does get hurt due to spikes, and or booby traps i believe they could sue you for intent to cause bodily harm.

I have to give a +1, or is it +2??? to the trail camera Idea.

And definatally post signs to help lessen your liability. As mentioned, you wife would know more about that, especially in your locale, as to the number of signes needed, spacing, wording, etc.

If you block their access, or make it more difficult for them, they will probabally just find some other poor guys woods to tresspass in. CATCH them and make them PAY. Legally, of course.
