well our huskavarna saw blew up after 15yrs of great service.an we was in a tight for a chainsaw so i went toTSC an bought an poulan wild thang to clean fence rows.we get it home an try to put it to work well it runs some then quits.so we put an old craftsmen saw in the shop.an the fence builder uses his dads saw.take the saw back to TSC they say we owe them $50.an that we didnt know what we was doing,wrong thing to say.so i unload on the manager,telling him that we didnt go into the saw removing the filter.an that they should cover their products.so then i tell him im going to pay the bill,an promply get rid of the saw.an that i wont bother buying from them again.so he eats the $50 charge.

You still have a saw that was not worth 50 dollars new. Leave it in the back of your truck and hope someone steals it. You will have less mental stress then if you keep using this saw. Needless to say I had one. It was a gift.

yes thats what im thinking,so we will prolly run it till it blows completely up.they shouldve took it back but they didnt oh well,i can live with it.

Last summer my ex-boss who knows almost zip about mechanical thing asked me to show him how to use his new saw...yep, Wild Thang. When I picked it up I thought I had a toy...well, a toy would have been more use. I mounted the chain for him, explaining what I was doing, fired it up...fired it up...fired it up... No matter what I tried I could not get it to keep running past the 'choke charge'. Then we discovered that somehow the chainbrake handle had broken on one side. I hadn't dropped, kicked or done anyting else rough to it but there it was, a clean break through the arm. Told him to take it back and spend his money on a real saw. He decided to just take it back and get the money. I told him if he wanted to trim his trees come and borrow my MS210.

I guess I'm too dense, but I don't understand this. You bought the saw? Had you paid for it? What did it cost? Why would you owe them $50? And are you saying they would not take the saw back and refund your money? Just confused.

I've owned 2 Poulan saws; one in the early '80s, gave it away when we went to full time RVing in '89, and one in the mid-90s that I sold when we had to move back to town in '02. I had great luck with both; couldn't have asked for anything better. But I've seen a number of posts like this, and even one of my brothers bought a Poulan and had so much trouble with it, he promptly returned it. It seems they've had some serious problems and I wonder why.

problem is bird, it shows what manufacturer are making now, not way back when. we keep buying them as we seem to think it will be good enough for a few trees cutting.

to OP, you unloaded on TSC store manager for selling crap? hmm, they DIDNT make it, they DIDNT make decision to sell it in their store. When I saw the comment removing filter -- red flag. u might be right, but they have a right to defend themselves from your mods. Complain to poulan company, not TSC. just get your money back and be done with it and buy a good replacement. after all your trusty old saw lasted for years and its was expensive back then right?

I've had decent luck with Poulans. They try to disable the layman's ability to adjust the carburetors and the problem is the factory settings aren't that great. With the male splined screws I took some 1/4" urethane air line tubing and pushed it over the screw heads leaving enough sticking out to adjust the screws by hand. Most 2-cycle machines have the same Walbro carburetors.

That said I would never buy a Wild Thing. It has no vibration isolation. I guess that's what's wild about it.

What he said. I have a mid-70s model 306A Beaird-Poulan chainsaw that I still use. I wouldn't, however, even think about buying a current generation Poulan chainsaw. I use the 306A for heavy work and a Stihl MS170 for light trimming.

Yup. Used a friends wild thing. Would leak bar oil all over you if it was running. He hated it. I was surprised how junky they were. I have an old counter vibe 3400 that was flawless until being retired....by a Stihl
