Already posted these on "today's seat time" thread, but I'll re-post them anyway. Mowing the fire break/shooting lane between my land and state forest. About three acres worth.

Joe,

Thanks for posting such great photos. Great tractor.

Cheers

Some mowing/clearing in bottom ground over Labor Day. Took a couple days vaca and worked in the bush for 3 days - don't get no better...

Now see that's why I got a Kubota ... I suspect there's a tractor in that picture ... & if it was orange you could find it. I guess you can use a metal detector ... or get yourself another new tractor

Nice old 3010, is it gas powered? What are you pulling with it that you need duals?

Bepp: If it were orange the weeds would see me coming :D 'Can you see me now?' - Have been looking for another smaller tractor, but can't promise what color. Trying to hold out for a good deal but the bug has bitten pretty hard, don't know how long I can hold out...

Vertical: Thanks, that tractor has been good to me. It's a gasser, and used to pull a 4 bottom moldboard, 12' disc and chisel (forget how wide). Duals helped with the disc and chisel quite a bit. That was years ago, though. Don't need the hubs but the axles stick way out there and it makes them easier to see - only reason I keep them on there.

When you get up to the 15' wide rotary cutters I have to ask: Why?

It looks like you are cutting a LOT of acreage that way. What is the land use? Are you maintaining low growth for livestock? If not, why not hay the area?

Just curious...not trying to ruffle feathers.

I do ~5 acres with my 6' cutter right now. 1 of those acres will be pasture within the next year or 2 for my goats so I don't want it over growing, but I haven't gotten around to fencing it. The other 5 are areas with trees that I just don't want turning into brambles and low growth woods. Not sure "why" but I just like it better this way.

If I had 10-20 acres or more that needed a 15' mower, I would be looking at hay.

Here's another perspective, I have ~80 Acres of Pasture/Clear land, I only hay about 20 Acres of that, the rest (60 acres) I just Bush hog flat (with a 7' hog - wish I had a 15' bat wing and a bigger tractor). Now, there are several reasons for this:

1) Im new to farming, and im working on renovating/rejuvinating much of this remaining 60 acres, it was poor hay initially, but I expect by next year at least 1/2 of it will be useable.
2) I dont need al that hay for my horses, and since this is a part time thing ( I have a full time job other than farming), and a family (wife and 2 kids) farm, they tire of the haying after 20 acres. In addition and getting 3 days in a row of no rain each time I do a cut, is tough, I simply run out of time before the hay gets too mature to be of use/value.
3) ive advertised locally with land available be to hay -- no takers, even if its free.
