Been looking at tractors for over a month now mainly online (drove a 30 horse Montana) and it looks like a Yanmar might be a good choice, who does the best refurbishing here in the states, is there more that one dealer who does this?

NW Iowa, some of the shipping quotes have not been too bad from other parts of the country, maybe I am being too picky and should just get the Montana. Seems like the Yanmar has more of a net work of owners and after market parts than a lot of the other imports.

This guy (Wayne, LMTC) in Ohio has retired but he might be able to broker one for you. I would trust him to find a good one from the network of dealers he belongs to.

Or just watch Craigslist, and take along an experienced diesel tractor owner to look over what you find. And always hold a reserve in case you discover what you bought needs something before it is ready for service.

might want to be sure you can get parts for the montana. They no longer make them. They montana was picked up / bought out by farmtrac ? & I think farmtrac has gone under.. might want to check it out.

They no longer make these old yanmars. But, there are parts suppliers for many of them

Don't know if montana is still around. Here's some info

Montana was around after Farmtrac i thought? Who kn ows? I personally would steer from LS, Escort, Montana or any of the Korean tractors that seem to come and go every few years. Manihandra i would not fear, Kioti either. But some of these others that are basically the price of a new Manihandra minus a few grand, i dont think so. What good is a 3 yr warrenty if the company is sold and new owner dont hold up to his end of the deal or they just pack up and leave, like farm trac!

As far as the Yanmars best refurb job i think is a consensus of frederics in Al. But your pretty far from Wayne in Ohio or Al or Ernie on the west coast.

I too if i were you would find a Deisel Wrencher guy and watch craigs list, which may be hard, i dont think they have really penetrated the midwest mush as the east and west coast. Your more likely to find an american yanmar id think?

I like the idea Ernie has in that he buys and sells original low hours machines that haven't been hacked up or the other dealers like Fredericks and Wayne LMTC all have good reps. my .02

Freight is freight its a one time deal get a good one and pay what it costs to get it home that is a area that is negotiable usually thru a broker all it will do is go up always does.

Or find a US spec Yanmar like one guy on here just bought a 3k hrs 336D that is about the size you are looking at and an excellent tractor at reasonable prices.

When I bought my YM2020 I got it from WI and it cost me $600 to have it shipped to NC. I have a good freight hauler so PM me if interested, he is independent and makes runs all over the country mostly hauling military vehicles.

I have heard on here that Waye sells Fredericks tractors? I guess it really dont matter cause unless he does something special for you he no longer sells or repairs Yanmars, he just sells parts. At least thats what some have said as well as me reading his site.

Ernie on the other hand from Ernies imports sells unmolested out of the container Yanmars. May put new seats or paint o hood or something as well as fluid changes but i think that us usually the extent of most of his work as he buys low hour excellent condition tractors, of couse they will cost you!

$600 is a lot of money to haul a $3000 tractor across country. Not sure if that is best decision $ wise, esp in NC when your so close to east cost dealers.
