RTV 900 sucks at snow plowing?

My RTV1100 does a gret job a snow plowing, and the power angle is great.

As others have said, you can't wait for 2 feet of snow to land, you have to stay somewhat in front of it. I've plowed around 10" with mine, it did great. Have to double back a little, but it still beats a shovel.

Thanks, guys. I'll go back to the dealer and get more info on the conditions in which he thinks I'll be disappointed.

Do get yourself a good set of chains all-around. I use my RTV900 in the woods, and the chains make a world of difference. Torque is useless without traction...

For chains I put these ones on and they are awesome

I'd only go with the rears with a studded ice chain, it's all you're going to need and on the front it will affect your steering effort and the load on the front end.

I plow all my neighbor's drives, seventeen total. I don't think mine sucks at all. I put some snow in the back. These are two of the drives I plow.

Nice chains, DixieDog. Most people use the ladder style but I can't stand the bumpity-bump thing

My big issue with ladder chains is how they fall in between your tread lugs...a good diamond or H pattern ice chain is in contact with the ground all the time and they don't fall into voids in your tread. The only downside is they can be spendy...the ICC version shown isn't too bad on price.

Agreed Coot...I do 9 or so driveways and 600+ feet of right away, and never had any issues...Sometimes I have to get the BX out and use the FEL to move piles, but that's no big deal....I'm very happy with my RTV's plowing ability. The HVAC and power angle make it actually fun.

Okay, got more info. In his experience, people with situations like mine have been mightily disappointed in the snow removal performance of the RTV. Knowing my land, he feels putting a snow blower on the B3030 would be a better bet. Here's why:

I have a 300 yard stretch of sunken road where there is an incline on one side and a three foot tall stone wall on the other. About half of this is a 25+% grade. That's the section he's worried about. The RTV will handle the driveway just fine, ditto the tenant's driveway. But that sunken section has nowhere to put the snow so it has to be pushed, or removed one FEL bucket at a time, especially when blowing wind fills it in to a depth of 3 feet or so.

So far from being a "fool," as one response so uncharitably put it, this is a case of a well-intentioned dealer who not only knows his products, but his customers' land as well.

Must ponder this a bit.

My daughter lives in Ogden, Ut and has a lot of snow. They bought a 3030 with a blower on the front and a cab. They are very happy with it and I would agree if you have no place to plow the snow to the side you'd be better off with the blower.
