I'm re-running wires to the brakes on my (homemade, not by me) trailer and found four wires at each hub instead of the usual two. There are two heavy wires that I assume are the magnet, but there is another pair of light (20 or 22) wires coming from a different hole on the assembly.

Does anyone know what these are, or do I need to dismount a hub and take a look inside?

yes

could be they ran the running lights etc into there as a junction location.... could be the brakes were innitally run with lite gauge wire and someone later upgraded to heavy wire knowing that the lite wire was insufficent, and then didnt pull it out....

point is... who knows...

If I had to guess it might be the battery backup circuit for the brakes. No way to know for sure without looking or checking continuity. Have Fun!

Never seen that one. Pull the hubs and have a look.
