Critical Compoment failure : Horn won't sound!

Finally got time to check the non functioning horn, pulled it off and direct connected it to the battery plus and minus and no sound. So I ordered a new one $10 for a Wolo "small but mighty horn" at Amazon.com. More to follow on this most important of topics.

Thanks for the update. I'll try the same test. I was pounding away on the thing the other day trying to get my wife's attention - very frustrating. Not only wouldn't the horn work but I couldn't find anything safe to throw at her.

I guess I'll carry a Nerf football with me until I get the horn fixed.

Evidently none of you guys has a boat; 'cause if you did you'd do what I do when I want someone's attention: blast the AIR horn! If that doesn't get their attention, then the problem lies elsewhere - no pulse?!:laughing:

side note: works wonders on the neighbor's dog- he runs home to c%6P instead of using my lawn...ain't technology great?

Oh, I'm gettin' an air horn. Gil has a great idea there. The neighbors will think the Queen Mary is coming into dock every time I pull out of the shed.

More on this most important of topics. My $10 horn arrived from Amazon (there was one for $5.00 but I went for the upgrade).
Plugged it in to existing wiring and voila I sound like a big orange Volvo going down the road.
Working horn and a cup holder- doesn't get any better than that.

A horn and a cup holder are all you really need, right? Maybe a horn and TWO cupholders. That might be better. One for the cold standby drink and one for the drink already in progress.

I'm not sure what I did. Maybe I jostled something loose but my horn has quit working. I count on it regularly to startle my wife and make a general ***** of myself with.

All the other electrical components work and it shares a fuse with other working functions.

Any idea where the horn's actually located? Maybe I tore it off. Better yet, maybe I should upgrade to some kind of air horn!

I think you may have just saved my marriage! I sent link to this thread to my wife with a message that "she's not alone"!! There's another woman married to a man who acts just like me.

I'm going to try the nerf football idea .. sounds like a good ADDITION to the horn.

While reading the thread I was hoping it was the Wolo "Bad Boy" you had ordered. (Same as the Stebel Nautilus compact horn.) THAT would have definitely done the job of getting your wifes attention! It's actually an air powered horn but doesn't look like one. I have one on my motorcycle and it has saved me a few times and shaved a few years off the offending persons life at the same time.

How about throwing the horn at what ever it is you are trying to notify??

You'd have to pick it up after each use to have ready for the next use, but it is an economical solution.

Sometimes horns just seize up due to lack of use. They are only a glorified buzzer. Get someone (wifey) to hold her finger on the horn and keep giving it sharp taps with a screwdiver handle or simmilar. Often they will start working again.
