no..you're right ...it's a 1 7/8 " ball on there now.

That s what i figured. That size is really fading out. Theres no point for it as even a tiny trailer can get close to the 2000lb limit or 2500limit they have. And Bigger Balls never hurt! There is nothing gonna hurt a small trailer by pulling with a 2" ball so most trailer manufactures just put a 2" coupler on it so that you dont have to fumble with your balls when you xhange between trailers. NOw if you have a big trailer your gonna have the 2 5/16 ball for it.

Some 8N's are narrow? haul it inside a Uhaul?

And by the way..Uncle Henry's rates right up there with bible up in these parts. the Bible may be by the bed stand stand, but Uncle Henry's is usually found in the bathroom.

Usually 8N's are pretty common. Keep lookn, Uncle Henrys is online also. Not uncommon to have a listing out of NH. Alot closer than NJ.

If you are thinking that way -- don't breath a word of it to the Uhaul folks. they won't rent for moving equipment like tractors.

Thought about inside with tires narrowed but the problem is you either need long stable ramps or a loading dock / pile of dirt at both locations.

No, no, no. You need a 6 pack and a buddy to hold the camera, oh ya, and your beer. Just get a good run at it. Rednecks last word are usually "hold my beer and watch this Cleatus".:D:thumbsup:

When I had an 8n, I hauled it and the 5 ft brush hog inside my 8.5 x 20 cargo trailer. Although mine probably was heavier than average, it had loaded tires and wheel weights on front and back wheels. Still it probably didn't weigh more than 4500 with the brush hog mounted. But didn't use anything smaller than an F-250 to pull it from Ca. to Idaho and back.

If you look/ask around you can usually find some dock or embankment to unload. And if not the right height you can dig out or place wood under the wheels.

Another option is to pay a few bucks to someone with a roll back wrecker to load/offload at one or both ends.

Thanks Chris,

My Colorado is a stock, 2006, extended cab, 6 ft. bed, 4 cyl, 4x4 w/ manual 5 speed trans.

I have a Draw-Tite hitch installed on it with 600 lb tongue weight and 6000 lb towing weight rating. The Draw-Tite ball mount has a 3/4 inch rise/2 inch drop and a 6,000 lb weight rating. I think I have a 1 3/4" ball on there now. I use it to tow a small 4x8 utility trailer.

I've been looking at the U-Haul car trailers. They're about a ton.

I'm going to run this all by my dealer service guy as well to see what he says.

As an aside I'll say that with little (or no really) prior experience with tractors, this shopping around I'm doing isn't a waste of time.

Last time I looked, U-Haul won't rent their equipment to haul tractors. Be careful--if you try to go that route and have an accident with their equipment, you'll be in deep horse pucky.
