Hello, I've found a mid 40's A sitting in the weeds, Very rough but straight, engine is stuck front end sunk down below the hubs, BUT, it's got factory hydrolics power steering, and a wide front end, and all the parts are there, I don't want to pay more then I have too but can't get it out of my head, I have not approched the guy who owns it, still trying to figure out what it would be worth, any I deas how to approch the gentelman, and what a guy should offer, thanks

$300, even though it's probably worth more in scrap. You'll face a bunch of work, especially since it has hydraulics.
Strong old simple tractor when good, though. Make sure there's not any cracks through the steering box/front axle pivot.

Going rate for an A, rough, non runner (around here anyway) is more like $500 to $750. They can be parted out for a healthy return even at that price. Look for "optional" items like wheel weights, ect....They bring a nice price. They also make paying a hefty price a little easier to justify. Unless you just want a project, it's usually a better investment to pay a little more for a running tractor where you already know what you have. You MIGHT get that one up and running for another $500 or it MIGHT take 5 times that much.

Not running, rotten rubber --it's pretty much scrap, not worth more than $500.
A few years ago I bought a nice, running 1951 Farmall Super A with a mid-mount sicklebar mower and a 3-point hitch (not the Farmall 2-point). Paid $1300. Needs to be cosmetically restored and some tranny work (won't shift into 1st).
I assume you want to restore this junker. Beware: 3 years ago I bought a 1951 Minneapolis Moline BF tractor for $1300. Not running, engine turns but no compression. Paid a premium for this BF because I like the looks, the sheet metal is in excellent condition, all the parts are there and it's a fairly rare tractor. So far I've put $1600 in a complete engine rebuild ($800 parts, $800 labor) plus a bundle for other stuff (manifold, U-joints, rebuilt water pump, etc). I figure I'll have $4500 plus 4 years of my labor (off and on) in that tractor before it's ready to roll (I'll be a parade tractor).
I'd keep looking for a better candidate to sink your time and money into.

You can find running A's for under $1000. Also I don't believe the A had a factory option for power steering. I've never even heard of aftermarket power steering on an A.

yep.. most non runners are 500$ teritory.
as FWJ points out.. if nothing else you can part it for more than that if you find out it's a money pit.
