Stay sitting in your seats. Price of 55 gallons of WWF at my Napa is $168!!!! I have no idea how this computes as I can get a 1 gallon jug just under 2 bucks if I shop at Walmart. Going to ask another bulk supplier.

I've been talking to the local soure of beet juice and waiting to see the best they can do for me.

At these prices and given the discussion we've been having here I am leaning to CaCl2 with tubes which my dealer will do for not much.

OH?.....and have you priced tubes lately? And the install time / hauling? If you compare tubes and CC to WW juice from Mart-Mart I'm gonna bet you will be in the same ballpark. But now you cannot plug a tire with CC....and you can with WW Juice.

Geez.....12 pages and still have not covered it all.

I'm happy with my Rim Guard.....but if I were doing it again I would simply do the WW Juice from the Mart. Send the empty jugs to FWJ....seems he has an outlet for 'em. ;)

Beet juice, a liquid byproduct made from de-sugared sugar beets. This food grade product is available in the US under the trade and brand name, RimGuard.

Ah, that's what I wanted to know. Someone is making pure profit from hauling off a major industry's heretofore unwanted waste product. Too bad it's not an electronics product that we could expect the price to come down on due to new innovations and a little competition. It looks like one of those, "I got it, and you can't get it, except from me," free market, kind of deals.

I guess I can forget putting in the beet crop. I don't think sugar beets grow here.

down here in fl.. it's pretty economical to buy AF from a petro supplier in 55g drums. that's what we do at work. way cheaper than buying by the gallon.

Hel1, thats no deal. That works out to over $3 per gallon. Tubes are expensive. I bet you will have $80 or more in them.

Just be done with it and get the WWF from Walmart.

Cal Chloride is ok but like what happened to my Co-worker when he tore open a tire and tube on his 8N and dumped about 25 gallons of the stuff in his yard is enough to keep me away from it. It killed off a 20 foot area round of grass and nothing would grow for 2 seasons. Ended up having all the soil dug out and new hauled in.

I'd be willing to bet that WalMart sells LOTS more WW Juice than a bulk oil supplier or your local NAPA store......and has a better distribution system in place too. They buy better and ship better and work on a lower margin. (Not that I am a Mart fan - but facts are what facts are.)

Also.....You can handle gallon jugs without the need for a forklift or tractor. Not so in drums. Maybe that is not an issue for you....but it would be for me.

1500 lbs @ 8 lbs gal = 187.5 gals @ $2 per gallon = $375.00 I dont think that is too shabby for ballast.

Boy.....you Canadian folks are a hard sell.;)

While more weight is desirable, ya gotta consider the incremental cost of getting that last hundred pounds or so. Yes, beet juice is heavier but WWF or methanol mixes are so much less expensive that you will literally be paying about $4-5 bucks a pound for the extra 100 lbs or so difference in weight.

Also, while CaCl is cheap and heavy, the risk of corrosion and the cost of having a tire shop install a tube needs to be considered against what is really a completely safe DITY project with water, methanol mix or WWF.

Boy, here in Idaho i got my DK45 tires filled with rimgard for $397.00 incl labor. Everyone carries it.

Guess its localized here

Why not methanol? It's the same as anti-freeze without all the other additives.
Folks around here use nothing else. I had 2-13.6x28s filled with 50 gallons each, which was enough to cover the wheel for $600. Calcium, IMHO, is just inviting long term disaster.
There are a couple of local guys who do nothing but ag tire work. They buy methanol in 50 gallon drums.

You can also ask the manager of your local WalMart if he/she will give you a special price if you buy the WW fluid in quantity - they sometimes do this. They may say no, but then again, what harm is there in asking ... they may say yes.

As far as the gallon jugs go when they are empty, they should be made from recyclable plastic and therefore, you can probably find someone who will take them off your hands.

I'm all for WWF but I'm NOT planning to handle 150 jugs. CaCl2 is going to be convenient as my dealer will just deal with it.

I'm still holding out for a decent deal of beet juice or bulk WWF. Also looking to see where I can find Methanol in the appropriate quantity.

FWJ and SoundGuy's posts regarding some perspective on the evil CaCl2 had had me re-thinking about the classic option that everyone knows about here. Everyone looks at me like I have two horns when I suggest I don't want to ballast with it because it is corrosive. They response is 'yeah thats why you use tubes' :)

Is it really possible to have a leak go without you finding it really causing damage with CaCl2? My tire guy says that you just want to watch for the valves after around 10 years.
