1*Since they have converted over to ULSD back about 2010 95 to 100 percent of all fuel is the same no matter what they call it.1*I would REALLY like to secure a source of AG Diesel
locally.
2*My goal is to have at least a 55 gal drum onsite eventually.

2*Here is my 2 drum 55 gallon storage system .
The great thing about this system is it is so flexible you can use any combination of 15 30 and 55 gallon drums to acheave most any volume of storage desired.
The most unique thing about this rig is it is self filling which means no moving of heavy drums of fuel.
3*He should look under fuel distrubitors or suppliers3*Try to look under oil in your yellow pages, maybe something there.
4* The difficult thing for you is that most places have a 150 gallon minimum purchase to be considered "bulk fuel".
5*In our area bulk fuel, even road and sales tax free actually cost close to or more than at the pump once you factor in delivery fee and
6* a slew of other taxes that make up for the sales and highway.
Also look under Home Heating Oil or Fuel Oil as it's the same thinhg as off road or ag diesel .
4*You did not state that quite correctly .
More accurately you should have said: Most places have a 150 gallon minimum purchase before they will deliver .
Even then Some will still deliver if they happen to be delivering in your area.
5*I've never paid a delivery fee for off road .
6*That is not justified because there are no taxes to make up for on off road.
7*WAS This off road?Keith,
7*I also bought 10 gallons at $3.759 locally

8*Porper treatment and storage is the key8*How long will it take you to use up 55 gallons? More air in storage tank = more moisture.
9*Diesel with moisture (condensation from humidity when the ambient air temperature changes) + time = bacteria = trouble in river city (fuel filter and injectors).
10*Neighbor that buys in bulk can probably tell you how long you can safely store deisel.
9*Again proper treatment and storage is the key .
10*Last time I bought fuel was in april 2010.
Still working fine.
My supplier said Diesel should be good up to 2 years .
12*That's what i like about my storage rig you can go with as little as 15 gallons of storage depending on how you set it up.Mossflower woods-listen to this guy.
12* It takes a lot of seat time to go through 55 gallons of diesel on a hobby farm. You might be using your tractor a lot now becuse it's a new toybut wait until the wow factor wears off.
13* I buy it as I need it so I never have any problems the poster above mentioned.
14*Plus, who knows how long that diesel has sat in those large storage tanks at your local independent ag dealer.
15*I have a 5 gallon can and just refill it as needed and my local gas station gets new fresh diesel in every 4-5 days.
16*I know I am buying winter diesel in the winter because he actually post it on the pump when they change the formula from summer to winter
17*I'll gladly play more to know I'm getting fresh stuff. There have been more post about people having problems with old diesel on this site than just about anything.
13*So do I and i never have had any storage problems with it .
14*Don't know about the ag dealers but the bulk plant where my fuel comes from sells lots more than any one little ole gas station does.
15*I got rid of 5 gallon cans when I built this a few years ago .

No way would I ever go back to 5 gallon cans.
16*Winter diesel is simply summer diesel with a little Kero added to it.
17* Just because you buy it at the pump don't mean it's always the freshest.
The bulk plant where my fuel comes from sells lots more than any one little ole gas station does.
18*You can't go any better way than that.In Maryland (low sulfur state),
18*I use fuel oil. (Same tank that heats the house). Been doing it for 19 years and 5-6,000 hours. Works fine.
