I have a 13 ft wide drag spaike harrow that I use to smooth fields and lawns before seeding. It's probably 8 ft long and works great at leveling and smoothing the soil. It's hard to transport, however since I need a tall loader tractor to get on and off the trailer.
At a farm show recently I saw a three point hitch spike harrow that was maybe 8 ft wide by maybe six ft long. This would solve a problem for me on new lawn seeding---assuming they work as described.
Anyone know if 3 PT spike harrows work as advertised and are any good??

I think they work well, just make sure your hitch is setup to float. Here is one I made for $250 a couple of years ago. I used it to cover the seed on my lawn.

I have one also Its a 4 row 8ft long with 2 4ft wings. It floats, used it twice spent $900 worst investment I've ever made. Front always digs back sticks up in the air. If you pick it up so it wont dig it bounces. I put some big truck brake drums on the back and that seemed to help but It was just more trouble than it is worth so I bought a 4 row do-all. If I was doing lawns I'd want a pulverizer.

Have not figured out how to put pics on yet. Mine was made by CF poyner manufactering here in my hometown but they are not in business anymore. It has a floating hitch hooked to the spike frame with a clevis(d-shackel) with chains running to the back. Granddad had one like it and he always chained a long 1" thick piece of sawmill lunber behind his and it worked great but he farmed alot of ground. I'm just doing a garden plot. It did'nt work as good for me, but my garden is on a hill:confused:
My uncle just laughed when he seen what I'd bought, I wonder why

Maybe a chain harrow instead? My chain harrow works pretty good. You can rotate it or flip it over to get different spike patterns...more or less aggressive, etc. I roll it up like a rug and put a chain and hook around it for transport.
