Grappel Update.... (The Thumb)

It's not as elegant to use water pipe fittings and white tape, but if it works, what's the problem? .

Regular plumbing fittings are only rated for maybe 400 PSI if you get good ones. Teflon tape can foul hydraulic systems.

it was plumbed wrong no way it could work right its a long explanation
Sorry if I'm exhausting your patience! :)

From that photo it appears to be plumbed as Hoye recommends on their loader install page.

Ie in series ahead of the 3-point lift.

Am I understanding it correctly?

Sorry to come off like you were bothering me you definitely are not that isn't my intention California is yours plumbed that way and if so how well does it work for you? :)

I sure as **** am not trying to take over kenmacs thread sorry man.

Btw I would be tickled with the instal on mine if it looked anything like Hoye's with quick connects and all whether it worked to suit me or not that is a nice instal well done some guys should actually read and observe before picking up a hacksaw.

Only trying to help here....Hoye's install instructions are flat wrong. They are almost just incomplete, until they specifically say to bypass or plug the power beyond, which makes them down right bad. The outlet port on valves is not usually (i.e. almost never) rated for hydraulic pressure (500psi +). The way hoye sets it up, when the 3ph is used, the outlet port will be passing the hydraulic pressure to the 3ph. Eventually, the valve will fail to work properly, or worse, fail catastrophically. The power beyond is design to pass the pressure to the next service, and also adds another return hose for draining the loader cylinders (lowering a load). If the loader is not working as you'd expect, I'd expect the valve is leaking by internally.

Stay tuned this man is onto something PB and returns is the key words.

Your factory loader install must have something plumbed differently ( internally ?) Or the hydraulics are engeneered to work correctly the way its factory plumbed. I can tell you that my loader was plumbed like all the rest of the yanmars that I've seen. HP line was cut & routed to the loader valve. Then , outlet loader valve to 3 PT. The loader was slow & it seemed like the loader & 3 pt were fighting each other for pressure / hyd fluid. Mark in (Redbluff Cal ?) offered some advise / suggestions as to how I might be able to solve this issue. The 3 PT & Loader, now operate great the way I have them plumbed

I started a new thread

Loader plumbing

so your grapple subject won't get buried by this diversion. I like that grapple and want to read more about it here!

Also, I want to learn more about improving the loader plumbing - mine could be faster, and it has that interaction between curl/lift/3-point that is a nuisance.

Thanks for all your help looks great! I am looking forward to making my loader work like its supposed to thanks to all your tips!

Question-Is the elbow (looks like one anyway) to the front of where the fel valve LP return is tee'd into the sump return pipe the LP return from your new grapple valve?

Well, Your welcome. The way I see it, Were all in this together. If it's a better way of doing something, a repair , adding something, etc, etc, we should let others know.....There is a T at the end of the pipe where 2 lines connect. 1 line is a return for loader valve & 1 is a return for the grapple valve. (If that's what you are asking)

I used the Grapple a little this past weekend cleaning up some brush for a friend. It was alot better than moving it by hand. I'll be taking it to my property this sat. to move alot of brush that I pilled up last week. I also had a 6x6x20ft treated pole on my trailer That I'll be using for a power pole at my property. I was able to take this 6x6x 20ft post off my trailer with ease using the grapple
