Rake York Brand 8' Rake Used - Is $400 good price?

A York rake is not the tool of choice for what's in that picture,,,,a FEL and a stop at the local day laborer hangout would be your better choice

Sorry for my confusion but if you have grapple for pictured mess, then what is the need for the rake?

I have a small York brand York Rake and it is tough as nails.

$400 for an 8 footer seems very reasonable, although I do like my gauge wheels.

I had a guy on my thread about the rain damaging my driveway tell me to get a Landscape Rake to treat my decades old established gravel roads that were taking surface damage from heavy rains. I went and looked, and viola! there was an 8' York Rake.

I might go look at it tomorrow after Church.

I would only use it for gravel and for AFTER the mulcher or myself has cleared the big stuff and all it is doing is smoothing out the dirt and pine chips...

The rake will be great for the drive but the suggestions I made earlier will save you a lot of tine replacement money and hunting for broken ends. The tines are tempered and the point of breakage is not very weldable. Working the gravel back to the center by raking with the head at an angle first and then making a final light pass with the rake straight works well. You will get some gravel flipped to the side into the grass which may require more work. Depending on your driveway base
you will have to be selective of the time you do the raking. When the gravel is rock hard in dry ground you won't get much raking action. If it is too wet
you will mix a lot of mud pie brown gravel. It will wash off in the next rain though. I have a portion of my lane that is rather steep for about a quarter mile and it gets the most rain damage even after 20 years of use and k's of bucks in gravel. Still beats living in a city!

I use an 8 ft Woods rake that I paid $600 for--used, like new--and figure I got a deal. The extra width is very helpful in smoothing and leveling dirt prior to doing a lawn. For a driveway, the wheels are almost a necessity but most rakes don't have them. There are many threads here on adding them since they cost around $350 a pair. The more weight on a rake the better since lighter ones tend to bounce and leave ridges. York is a top quality brand and when you are done using it you can sell it for more than you paid.
In your wife's eye, that means it's "free".
Oh--the rake won't work for the limbs you have pictured. Push in a pile and burn.

The rake is handy for spreading horse apples in a pasture too. As you probably know the horses don't like to eat around where they crap and the weeds love growing in horse apples so you can build up a lot of clumps even if mowed over with a hog or a wide multi-spindle finish mower. Spreading them a little with the rake helps spread the fertilizer benefit and it gets the horses to move to another area to crap so you get some free spreading over most of the pasture in time.

Just be real careful driving thru that mess, you could get alot of damage from those branches coming up under the machine.

I would think a loader bucket or even some type of plow to push the debris into piles first, then go at it with the grapple.

I agree definitely not a job for a rake., but the rake would be nice to dress up the area after you clean it up, if you need it that dressed up.
