you want an HST hands down.because using the clutch all the time will wear your knees out.an you can do most everything with the HST.

I have owned and operated geared transmission tractors, never have used a shuttle shift but I currently own 2 HST tractors (3 if you count the old IH/Cub Cadet 129).
I do a lot of FEL loader work and work a lot on hills so the HST is the transmission for me.
My second choice would probably be a shuttle shift and may add one to the fleet someday.

Boy, you guys who worry about wearing your clutch out or tiring out your knee are doing too much shifting...more then required for most tasks.

No, I'm a residential operator and I was directing my comments toward those folks.
For you, a reverser transmission would be nice.
But even with a non-synchro gear, I was pretty quick with shifting and can't say I came close to bothering my knees....it's age and abuse wearing out my knees (one of the worst things one can do to damage their knees and feet is stand...especially on a hard (cement) surface.

I have never ran anything but geared tractors so I haven't personally experienced the pros and cons but I have been looking at TBN for a while and I note that there seems to be lots of problems and troubles associated with HST equipment.

Are you talking about the HST or the tractors themselves? Posts/threads on bad HST systems are few and far between. I'm not saying HST is perfect but, "lots of problems and troubles"??

You don't say if this is a "professional" tractor (i.e., a full time job) or a "weekend Warrior" machine. HST is ideal for learners/the ladies, but you do lose a bit of PTO power, if you are doing some serious (i.e. baling, chopping silage) farming.

That said, I wish I'd had HST- and GPS and cruise control,- when I was on Old Betsy from sun up to sundown!

I Like HST痴 for the Safety factor, seems to me to be safer or easier to operate on hills. I have gotten into some sticky situations where operating a clutch would have only added to the 菟ucker factor while trying to get things back into control.

Sorry "Pucker"
