Ok so I get the basic concept of how you would attach a strut (light bar) using U-Bolts but here is the problem: The Strut is slightly smaller than the interior of the ROPS so as to not cause any structural change by pushing out on it. When I use the U-Bolts they still have enough sway to move up and down making for a sloppy mounting plate. Do I need to do some alteration to the U-Bolt or get one that is a bit too small and squeeze it on there. Right now I have about 1/2 inch free room on each U-Bolt. I sure wish I could just weld a bracket and forget about it...but sure as I do there will be an issue down the road and I will be S>O>L.
Can anyone give me some close up pictures of how they have used U-Bolts on the ROPS? Thanks!:

Cut a groove in a hockey puck and insert to take up the slack.

Bend the U bolt with a torch and vise to fit. If I understand what you are trying to do, you will have plenty of spring back left to get it in place.

The other thing I think you might be talking about is a "Z-direction" gap. If so, then just space it with rubber strips, washer, steel plates....whatever.

ditto that. I usually torch and bend allthread to make custom ubolts when i mount stuff.
