.... The old Wisconsin engines used on those old balers didn't have much torque rise but they did get the job done....

The Wisconsin's only job was to power the baler - and a low capacity baler at that. Reason you need to look at old vintage balers when baling with low hp tractor.

Big Hills or pulling a wagon etc. had zero effect on the Wisconson becaue it only had to power the baler. Put the Wisconson hp up against a modern Briggs of equivalaent hp and which one do you think will win?

Really everybodies scenario is different just like towing a trailer is different with a pick-up truck. What I can get by with in the relatively flat lands of Ohio is totally different than someone towing in the mountains or high altitudes of the out west in the thin air.

The Wisconsin of course. The Briggs is a short stroke engine. The Wisconsin is a long stroke engine. Relative torque rise is based on stroke (piston speed and travel) at a pre determined rpm. I'll take a cast iron Wisconsin over a pot metal disposibriggs any day.
