My gc 2610 is on it's way I was thinking of tacking my new mower deck to lineX or rino line and have it coated does anyone have any ideas on if this would be good or bad and for what reasons I just don't want it to rust out

Bad idea. It has a rough texture and grass will not 'slide' out and will probably collect in certain areas. I started spraying "Fluid Film" on mine and it really helps grass to not collect and FF is a great rust inhibitor.

BTW A friend did the underneath of his Chevrolet show PU truck and he regrets it. Dirt and grime just stick to it in all the low areas and it is hard to scrub clean versus gloss paint.

Most farm stores have a graphite based paint for the bottoms of mower decks. They work decent allowing grass to fall off.

However, deck rust is caused by leaving wet grass on the deck. I use a leaf blower to clean it off and try to not mow when it's real wet. Most decks seem to rust from the top down and not the bottom up .

Where do you get fluid film?

The Fluid Film website has a "dealer finder". Most John Deere dealers also carry it.

Fluid Film? | Corrosion Preventative, Lubricant and Rust Inhibitor

Line-X sounds like a good idea but ultimately probably would not be.
>It would be very difficult to prep the underside of a mower deck.
>While it is tough stuff, it is not bullet proof and high speed rocks will damage and chip it.
>It is doubtful that the lifetime warranty would be valid for use on a mower deck.
>It would be expensive even if you could find some dealer to do it.

The graphite paint wears off after one mowing. Tried it, inspected the underside - 90% gone.

Fluid Film does work well but needs to be reapplied often. There are special air spray guns that make the job simple. (Check the Fluid Film website above.) Spraying with aerosol cans is uneconomical and wasteful.

I use a leaf blower to clean off the deck on top and a water hose to clean the bottom when needed. I agree with using Fluid Film but most of the time I am too lazy or busy to do it.

I do feel for the guys who live in areas where rusting is a big issue, it can make life with steel toys miserable.:(
