Acme thread is a much stronger thread than the common threads you see on bolts. Acme is used on vises and clamps in general. It is a very coarse pitch square cut thread vs the much finer V-cut thread on bolts.
I'm still not sure what exactly you are trying to do, but I would agree with Mark's advice to use Acme vs regular if you need threaded rod for making custom clamps.
Get threaded black pipe at the local big box, then get some threaded unions that allow you to thread them together. Then get the bar clamps at harbor freight.
Cheap, quick, and you can break them down and use them as shorter clamps if you need them
And your right, can't have too many clamps, though I am close.
