Clean the fuel tank. When I restored my 1964 MF135 diesel a few years ago, my tank was filthy. Took me two days of shaking that tank with nuts and bolts rattling around loose inside to get that sucker clean enough.

When I rebuilt the Marvin-Schebler on my 135 I ended up reusing the idle needle, the one with the kit came with a rubberized tip, you'll read a lot of complaints about the kit for that carb. After vacuum checking the carb was tight, ended up moving off factory recommended settings to get it to run right, but I got there.

Sent you a private message with some carb documentation, too large to post here.

Couldn't put it in a private message either. The documentation is simply a breakdown and recommended repair / overhaul and adjustments for the Marvin Scheber and Zenith carbs. It's available on-line so there are no copyright issues, you could find it yourself if you google the make of your carb.

either starving or flooding.

what's the exhaust look like?

if you slowly advance the throttle what does it do?

the exhaust is black and smells rich. when i advance the throttle it spits and sputters then dies, then i have to choke it to start it, also i got it running at idle then i pulled the choke and gave it full throttle and it ran decent for a few seconds then it died. thanks again Tim

sound slike fuel obstruction and leanness, but having to choke the heck out of it to make it run makes burst of rich soot.

a vacume leak will cause this as well as you have to heavilly enrich to make up for it.

makes sense because when i first start it after it sits for awhile it idles fine then it either runs out of gas or floods. So maybe its not got enough vacume to pull the fuel up?

probably not a compression/vacume issue.. but could be a leak..
