Yep you could use a brazing rod or a tig rod. I chose the welding rod because I have them in the thousands and will never get rid of them all. Tig filler rods are expensive so I save those for tigging

I was to an auction about five years ago and bid on a lot number. In that lot was some grinders, drills ... And about twenty five unopened cans of stainless steel welding rods. Thought it was a good deal for $125.

Not Navy. There boats are a little larger. This one belongs to the Department Of Fisheries.

what exactly is the application for the pins. they are nice but they seem kind of small to hold any weight

I suppose they are meant to be custom made cotter pins but I don't see a way to keep the pin from falling out.

I'll post photos of the completed job tomorrow but the holder and pin will keep a safety flag in place. I'll bend the pins a bit to cause a restriction to prevent them from comming out.
