Lots of good advice here, and a 'middle buster' is a multipurpose tool. I would only add, that for 1/4 acre either rent something, or hire someone for what is essentially a one time task.
After the ground is prepared, it is often best to stay off it with heavy equipment, due to soil compaction.
Work in compost/organic materials, and let the worms do the tilling for year to come.
(of course, there is always more than one way to skin a cat.)

The problem is, plowing is actually an enjoyable thing. Nothing like the smell of freshly turned earth, and looking back over the job you've done. It's kind of a rite of spring/fall, something that just doesn't make sense to many until they've done it themselves. I wouldn't trade my old MF plow for anything, it's like a security blanket tying me to the past.

Just watching the video I took of the missus plowing the garden last fall is mesmerizing to me, seeing the sod roll over and shining in the sun. Somehow, somewhere deep down, it triggers a feeling that this how life is supposed to be, that we're doing what God intended in providing for ourselves and our families.

Chilly, Amen from me too. But of all the ploughs featured in this thread yours is the only one that could do a good job on the ground your "missus" is ploughing out. That unfortunately is the problem with mouldboards - like many other things in life each different model is made for a different purpose, although yours is multi-purpose in that it will plough already arable ground as well as grassland.

I think one of the main advantages of the conventional moldboard plow is that it lets you plow in the fall, and allow the completely turned sod to rot over the winter in preparation for spring planting.
