faced drunk-driving charges
If convicted, put him in general population lockup for twelve months and let him think about how stupid he is.

That was total stupidity. Driving a tractor that is hauling people in a hayride, while being intoxicated, is ludicrous. Those people were expecting an enjoyable evening, but suffered because of the irresponsible behavior of one person. Having a drink or beer at the house is one thing, but not when someone is in charge of the safety of others. It appears that the individual had consumed quite a bit of alcohol by reading the report. What a stupid act.

Sad that someone's stupidity and selfishness by drinking while they are responsible for other people may have been a contributing factor in this accident. This probably could have been avoided.

I used to have a motor home and would take friends to football games to tailgate. Some games I'd have 20+ people on board, and I'd wait till I got home after dropping everybody else off before having a beer or three. I just couldn't risk being in an accident even if it wasn't my fault, whether I'd been drinking or not. And even though I had a $2,000,000 umbrella liability policy, I soon realized that wouldn't be enough if I were in an accident with that many people on board. So I sold the motor home soon after this realization.

(It also had gotten real old quick having to clean up the motor home bathroom after 20+ sometimes inebriated "friends".)

Sad story. Some of us in the human race mature slowly, some never do. I hope the seriously injured heal ok. That's alot of people and alot of weight.

A friend had a annual Michigan Ohio State/Pig roast and he served beer there.
5 years ago one of the guest had an accident on the way home and one of the injured he hit sued my friend for $5 million dollars for serving beer there and allowing him to drive home very drunk.

Well 4 years of not being able to sleep at night later and $168,000 out of his pocket (his insurance paid $1 milion) his nightmare is finally over. It ruined my friends life and his life savings is gone as well as much of his possesions which he had to sell.

I would NEVER serve any alchol on my property PERIOD.

I just hope everyone realizes that the guy is no more of an idiot than ANY drunk driver. This could easily have been a drunk driving alone just 1 mile to his house from the bar and hitting a wagon with people.

I totally agree with you....My wife and I tell friends to come over for a BBQ or get together and we will furnish soft drinks, mixers, Ice and the food but they should bring their own alcoholic drinks if they wish..I tell them it is for liability reasons...So then it is up to them to monitor themselves...I am not providing or serving it...I would still stop one of them from driving away drunk though...but that has never happened.

It has been at least a couple of years back a family was on hayride and a tractor trailer (that driver may have been drinking know there was some fault found of him) hit and kill some on a hay ride. The trailer was not lighted and on highway. Amazing how often non lighted trailers are on our roads. Regardless if lighted as slow as they move being on major highway is not smart at night.
