3-Point Hitch Jittery Hitch

I have a 2007 Massey 530 (52HP). The 3-point lift jitters a bit on every lift regardless of weight and does not go down on its own when unloaded. Otherwise, the hydraulic system is perfectly normal. The system is full, hasn't had enough hours to require draining or filter replacement and operates the same regardless of lift speed adjustment. Any thoughts on what might be casuing this and whether it's something I should be worried about?

Check under/in front of the seat. There should be a valve that you can turn to increase the drop speed. That will let it go down faster.

Speed isn't the problem, I've adjusted it and the lift jitters regardless of speed.

That valve only controls the DROP speed. So it should fix the "does not go down on its own when unloaded" issue that I quoted when replying.

When shopping tractors several years ago, And researching the major brands, what i found at that time, some, at least, of the smaller Massey's use only one pump to control hydraulics, thus 3 pt, power steering and a loader if so equipped all run from the same pump. Operating them seemed to bear this out as the ones i test drove, hydraulics didn't seem to be as strong or responsive as JD or FNH.
With that being said, It sounds like a fluid restriction or pump pressure problem, perhaps bypassing a bit. Even though you may not have reached recommended hours for a filter change, i'd try that first, a partially plugged filter could well cause the symptoms you discribe.

I have seen tractors that jitter/shudder a bit their whole lives and it doesn't seem to change. Perhaps the lift piston is so tight that it shudders a bit as it moves out in the cylinder. The tiniest of shudder movements at the cylinder are mechanically multiplied many times at the end of the lift arms. It is normally easiest to see when the arms are unloaded, but if there are tight pivot points, heavier loads could have shuddering too. I'd check to see if the 3PH would hold a load without dropping when the engine is shut down. If it holds, I sure would not worry about minor shudder/jitter.

My 231s Massey does the same thing if the fluid level is not exactly full or maybe a little more. Last time I changed the fluid I also changed the filter that you access from under the machine. This seemed to help a bit.
You might try using the draft control lever to lower it. Might steer you in the right direction.

In reply to Jinman, the 3PH holds a load when the engine is off, no problem with bleeding off pressure. Based on other replies, I think I'll go ajead and change the filter and fluid early. Thanks to everyone for the advice!!!
