If you have been driving with your foot in it at all or making that straight pipe 5.9 talk to ya 15 with a tuner is doing real good.
Checked my fuel records for the last month and pulling equipment around fields, pulling the backhoe some offroad towing and next to no highway miles I used 132 gal and put 1892 miles on it which works out to a little over 14. But no tunner and it don't get ran as hard ie over 2500rpm

I had a similar thread about 2 months ago

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...on/217162-2005-dodge-3500-cummins-fuel-2.html

I have a 2005 DRW 4x4 Quad cab Long bed.

The trip computer always shows 3-4 high.

Road trip we took, it showed 20.4, hand figure was under 18
Hard towing and hauling it showed over 15, by hand it was closer to 11:confused2:

Those numbers are real close to my 03 F350 4x4 crew dually...

Running an 80 HP program and 4.10 gears I get 14 to 15 driving back and forth the work and 10 to 11 pulling my 10K# fifth wheel camper...

That's with a real easy foot too...

Dodge Man - if I recall correctly from your pics, I think your tires slightly oversized. 15 mpgs on mixed driving isn't too bad at all. I get about 15.5 mixed on mine with stock road tread. But I get 12-13 pulling a 10k gooseneck. I'm running an auto with 3.73s.

My sweet spot for mileage is 1600-1900 rpms. Your mileage will drop above 60 mph due to aerodynamics and your gearing. I think you are getting normal mileage.

15 is right on. My neighbor gets 14 in his 07 Dmax and I get right at 16.5 in my 06 Power Stroke so you are in the ball park.

My Fords, Nissan, and BMW trip computers are all right on. +/- .2 mpg every fill up since day one.

The DIC (Driver information center.) is NEVER Accurate. Do it by hand, from fill up to fill up.

Yeah..and average it out over several fill ups.

Dmace's procedure is just about how I do it:
It's very easy to get the wrong numbers when hand calculating too! My process is to use the same gas station and same pump. I fill up using the auto shutoff on the pump handle and let it fill up slowly until it clicks, then do that two more times until it clicks for the third time. Then I reset my second trip which shows tenths and drive on. When its close to a 1/4 tank and no less, I go back to the same pump and same station and fill up again using the three clicks technique. I try to do it with the same weather and temps approx and never below 1/4 tank as the pump could click off too soon due to excess vapor.

This will give you a pretty good idea of your day to day fuel consumption. After I checked mine over several fill ups, I was pleasantly surprised to see I was averaging over 15 MPG with a 5.4L Ford F-150 Crewcab 4x4.

That is true on the smaller tanks. Like my saturn. With only pumping about 8 gallons per fillup, squeezing an extra couple tenths of a gallon does make quite a difference. EX: 300 miles / 8 gallons = 37.5MPG. 300 miles / 8.3 gallons = 36.1 PG

It makes FAR less of a difference on a 30 gallon fillup like my truck.

EX: 500mi/30gal=16.6MPG....500mi/30.3gal=16.5MPG

I get 19mpg empty consistently on 98.5 Cummins 2500 4x4 with a FASS 150. I'm not sure what I have for gears, but mileage is calculated usng my handheld GPS unit. Since I have 285's, the truck odometer always reads less than actual miles traveled. The speedometer will show 60 mph, but the GPS will show 65 mph. The extra 5 mph adds 30+ miles per fill up.

Na, these computers are manufactured to give these high (false) readings, so the companies can meet the government mandated MPG ratings (LOL - just joking...but maybe its true)
