You should use a handheld gps to verify your speedometer / odometer as a starting point.

Without doing that you will never know what is accurate or not.

I have never hand calculated mine. I didn't buy it for mileage. I bought it for the power it has vs gasoline. Mine also shows about the same as yours & mine has 373 gears
 If it says it needs fuel I fill it up to much other stuff to stress over than this!!

I drove a known distance and it seemed to check out. I'm pretty sure my tires are stock sized.

I've owned maybe half a dozen vehicles with trip computer, and the mpg's have always checked pretty good, but not on this truck.

2004 Dam 2500 HO with auto, forget the gears, missing the plastic air deflector under the bumper. Cruise set at 60 (gps confirmed), weather calm and 60-70F, LOM 27.2 and actual 23.4 mpg, 426 mile trip going and coming. Flatlands of I16 heading to Savannah. I am a master of wasting time filling up that tank to the brim. I may get that fill the tank quickly kit sometime soon. LOM is shorthand for Lie O Meter.

For my truck trying to get it up to 50 to get the torque converter locked up can be challenging when driving to and from town.

That is true on the smaller tanks. Like my saturn. With only pumping about 8 gallons per fillup, squeezing an extra couple tenths of a gallon does make quite a difference. EX: 300 miles / 8 gallons = 37.5MPG. 300 miles / 8.3 gallons = 36.1 PG

It makes FAR less of a difference on a 30 gallon fillup like my truck.

EX: 500mi/30gal=16.6MPG....500mi/30.3gal=16.5MPG

True, but I don't worry about tenths of a gallon...I always round up or down to the nearest half gallon.

On my '97 Cummins all I know is you better start lookin for fuel around 410 miles on the trip odometer as the fuel gauge hasn't worked since around '03 and I'm too fat to walk.

I towed with it today, about 180 miles towing my 7k car trailer with a old Ford 2N on it for maybe 4500lbs total. I got 13.5mpg on the trip, not to bad I guess.
