Not necessarily. Get yourself some true Lincoln wire instead of the Airgas house brand Radnor by Harris as I recall. Yes, I know Harris is owned by Lincoln; but I suspect Airgas tells Harris to make the wire cheaper than the true Lincoln stuff.

Harris is owned by lincoln but Harris only makes Aluminum wire. They buy the 70S6. The Radnor wire on 10# spools is Lincoln Shure Arc. Made in Mexico. Good enough that you should be able to get by. Any Porrosity issue usually comes back to a Gas Issue. Can you hear plenty of gas when you pull the trigger near your ear? Otherwise a bad liner will cause the wire to stumble and weld poorly too.

Regardless of manufacturer, in my case I found the Radnor inferior to the Lincoln wire.

Just a thought from one new welder to another. I find that when I use MIG to weld and the metal is not clean enough it will spatter at me. I have found that unless I use 6011 rod with a stick welder you better clean the metal to get a good weld.

Hope it helps

That is why I dont like MIG welders. So very much can go wrong with one and very hard to find the problem. With the pop and porosity, it sounds like bad wire.

Up here in canada, air liquide blueshield brand is very commonly used. Made in canada.

Gary if you think that is tough, try diagnosing someone's problem with a Mig welder via the Internet.
A lot easier when you can see it, and listen to it in person.;)

I hear this complaint from some of our "limp wristed" customers, who either hold the torch too loosely and it pushes off and creates an irregular arc, or the torch is held too far off the metal.

You didnt state at what amperage and lenght of time welding that this happens, but i will throw this out for thought. If you exceed the duty cycle of the welder you will get this type of behavior. Other than that, all the other ones that would cause this have been stated.

Probably not your problem, but have you changed the tip, and cleaned-out the end? Sometimes buildup can prevent the gas from flowing correctly
