hayride wagon overturns

It has been at least a couple of years back a family was on hayride and a tractor trailer (that driver may have been drinking know there was some fault found of him) hit and kill some on a hay ride. The trailer was not lighted and on highway. Amazing how often non lighted trailers are on our roads. Regardless if lighted as slow as they move being on major highway is not smart at night.

Around here you arent allowed to run at night with a SMV.
I picked up a couple of pairs of cheap $9.99 HF magnetic lights and a trailer wiring kit. The haywagons now have 4 pin wiring harnesses and I have a set of magnetic lights that are setup to mount on the back of the haywagons.
I also added a 2 pin flat connector to one light which I can hook a strobe into, so I can have lights and a strobe on the back of the haywagons.

Safer (IMO) than just a SMV sign and it only cost a few bucks per wagon.

And, along with all the other comments, just how smart were the people to climb on board a hay ride with a sloppy drunk driver. A whole lot of dumb going around.

You're making an assumption the driver was "sloppy" drunk or the riders even saw him (he may have stayed on the tractor while someone else loaded the passengers).
Due to the number of riders involved, I'm going to assume this was a commercial operation or a volunteer firehall fundraising event. Can anyone confirm that?

The hayride sounds like an event my wife, one of her grandkids, and I went on many years ago...we never saw the tractor driver Cabbed tractor). BTW, this ride was what leadme to buying a CUT.

I agree. There have been a lot of assumptions made based on the text of the article that was cited.

I myself have 'oversteered'/ 'drfted' a vehicle on more than one occasion while looking behind me and traveling forward.

Article said he was charged with drunk driving because he had an open beer, and refused testing. That's common in most states, and also causes automatic suspension of driving priveleges.

I've done hay rides, with Cub Scouts; it was a float for the local Christmas Parade. We did that a few times; once they one first place for their float.

But there was no drinking(part safety, part BSA rules, and mostly just smart). And, it was in an event where the float was expected.
