How tight should the pivot bolt be on a 4110 front axle? The manual is some what vague. Is there a torque spec?

Thanks
Jeff

Not sure if this helps but in your manual there is a generic torque spec for size and grade bolts check there and tighten to that spec and I would think that would be ok but you might want some other opinions/advice.

hope it helps get ya goin in the right direction.

If you're talking about the one large bolt in the center with the locking nut around it, that bolt is not torqued, it is used to adjust the play/gap in the pivot. You use a feeler gauge to measure the gap between the pivot and the bracket and set it with that bolt and then lock it down with the large nut. My shop manual says the gap should be between .008" min. to .039" max. If you're talking about one of the 6 mounting bolts that mount the brackets to the frame of the tractor, somewhere in the range of 100 ft. lbs. is enough and then the locking tabs are bent around the head of the bolts to keep them from loosening. I've had mine out a couple of times and just used my 1/2" drive Blue Point impact gun to run them up.

I think the front pivot also has shims????

It's the larger single bolt with the lock nut.
Reason I'm asking is I found the lock nut loose when checking the rest of the front axle bolts for tightness.
I have a service manual but can not find any type of gap measurements listed. Only what the lock nut should be torqued to.

Thanks
Jeff

Yea, Jeff, just get the front end off the ground and rock it back n' forth some while pushing forward on it all to butt it against the bolt good and measure between the rear bracket and axle housing with your feeler gauge.
