The sandwich is a hummus, lemon, kale sandwich which taste surprisingly good. the sides are whole grain pasta with raisins and coleslaw all without added oils.

Nice lookin' sandwich... Local grocery here has the regular bread, but did not see the buns or cinnamon raisin loaf - may have to drive a few miles for those. The plain bread toasted with apple butter is pretty good too.

I forgot, the buns are from our trip to Houston. After taking the picture I got hungry for a hamburger today So I had potato chips and a hamburger for lunch.

For the chips I sliced a potato in the Salad Master and soaked them in apple cider vinegar. You can add any flavoring spices to the chips, I did plain today.

I put them on these silicon chip platters that stack and go in the microwave. The two layers cook together. After 10 minutes the top layer is done and removed and another 2 minutes for the bottom layer is needed to get them brown and crispy.
Before I had the silicon trays I used parchment paper and it works good also.

The hamburger is black beans, tomatoes, carrots, oatmeal, cilantro, green onions, garlic, and other spices baked in the oven on parchment paper for 10 minutes and broiled for 3 minutes. The chips on the plate are about 1/3 of a potato.

Hi Don...is the hamburger a "branded" product or one you mixed together yourself? I can see where a good "bean" burger would hit the spot :)

Just got back from having annual "infusion" stress EKG with radio active die injected into veins and scan taken "resting" b4 and then new die injected the last two minutes of stress test and scan repeated. Doc says my "performance on stress test was great and the blood circulation looked excellent. Hope that means I have "reasonable/good" baseline at this date. Doc says that heart rate and blood pressure rose just as they were supposed to and heart rate peaked at 163 which I believe is a bit higher than my last test.

Next week colonoscopy will complete my health test "due" checklist.

Thanks...TMR

Pulse 163 wow, I was running a good clip (sustained max rate) last week and check my pulse on my watch and it was 159 so I know your heart was really going. It's always good to leave the doctors with no found reason to come back.

It's alway fun to clean your system out. NOT!

The bean burger was made from what I had on hand and kind of following the Rip Esselstyn's New York Times burger recipe. That's what he made at the fire station when the New York Times did a story about his station going plant strong to get his fellow firefighter's cholesterol under control.

How long did it take for your heart to return to a normal rate from the sustained max rate?

Ron, I have a Sportline heart rate watch I bought at Sears. I just put my fingers on the metal face part of the watch and in about 7 seconds it displays my rate while running. I did not check after I stopped running. You do ask a good question and again I don't know, but I will find out. I will take a few laps around my track. Whipper, my dog, is ready to run!

Edit: OK not a good test. In the field I did not have a place to sit and it is cooooold out there. I check my HR sitting at the computer before running and it was 68. Then I ran a mile and got my HR to 154 and then stopped standing taking my pulse. at 30 seconds it was 120 and at 1 minute it was 100, the I had to walk around because of the cold and for the next 5 minutes it was in the high 90s. Is that good, or should I have sat down and see how long it take to get back to 68? Right now after sitting typing this my HR is 82.

Don,
You know heart rate is influenced by many other factors besides body motion.
Emotion, environment, temperature, the moisture of your skin when using an artificial device like yours, even the elevation of your arm in respect to your heart, to name a few. Many folks have a higher pulse and blood pressure when they go to their doctor than their normal averages at home.
I am certainly no expert on this subject and can only speak from personal experience of my own and people close to me.
Taking blood pressure and pulse over many days doing the same activity and averaging them is the only way to get a meaningfull number.
In my opinion, the time and manner your pulse dropped from your described activity is good. If your average resting heart rate is 68 that is great, too.
Your running, eating and other healthy activities are paying off.
What formula, if any, do you use to determine what your maximum heart rate should be for your age while exercising?
I have a treadmill that I use daily ( most days to be honest ) that has a pulse monitor and found years ago that just swinging my arms as you do naturally when running on a track instead of holding onto the arms as most people do will result in a small pulse increase average. The metal part of the handgrips as well as the chest belt accessory that plugs into the treadmill
software are both influenced by how much sweat I have developed so are not
very accurate. I have my wife take my pulse once in a while while I'm using the treadmill to get more reliable results.
