Does anyone have experience with these new infrared barbacue grills? I have to replace a 16 or 18 yr old Ducane and was looking at one of the Char-Broil Infrared grills...

Any info good or bad would be helpful.

Regards,
Chris

Never even heard of them. I sure HATE my propane grill. I keep having to rebuild the burners all the time. Propane and moisture = broken burners.

We have one of the Char-Broil grills. It is great. I don;t seem to have the issues with fare ups or with the burners that I had with my other grills.

Basically there is just a solid metal plate between the burners and the grates. The burners heat the plate, the plate radiates the heat to the grates.

The only down side is that if you are looking to get a heavy sear at the start (for a steak), you do need to let it heat up for 15 minutes before cooking.

how much gunk builds up on the ceramic grill over time? i know my gas BBQ gets to be a mess. I have to pressure wash it 2x ayear.

I have a wire brush and maybe clean it every 5 or 6 grills....heat it up, brush it real quick and start grilling. Because of the ceramic on the grates, you do not have to worry about the seasoning on them, like you would on a cast iron grate.

Now, I have only had mine about year, but I live in Texas and grill year round (grilled tonight with a head lamp on), so it does get used 10-20 times per month.

No headlights silly boy...think of area lighting.

I just finished my rear patio last month...only took like 6 years to deside to finish..geesh. I put a dedicated set of lights on the BBQ as i was sick of flashlights.

Really like the one I have. Put chips in the pan and you get al the smoke that you want, it also serves as a basting pan. Easy to do ribs or chicken because you set the temp and never have to worry about the fire. On top of everything, the unit was way less than the big grills.

I got a Char-Broil 2 burner unit last spring. Like it a lot. Cooks much better than last 3 burner unit we had.
Easy to clean. Best part is it uses very little fuel compared to the 3 burner unit. Not sure about the infrared. All I see is a plate with small holes in it that gets hot instead of direct flame on grill. What ever it is, it works very well. The small holes need to be cleaned after 4 or 5 times of use.
Lowes had this unit on sale when I bought it last May for less than $200. For the price it is a good BQ.

We bought the Char-Broil two burner u it from Lowe's and used it all summer. The cooking process is a bit different and I found that waiting until the temperature reaches nearly 900 degrees. It is at our summer place and when there it was used nearly everyday. The grill grates are stainless steel and recommend that you follow the seasoning instructions.
