The pond will be for enjoyment yes I will stock the pond. I have several dead tree. I just need to get those fitting on the hydraulic cylinder and move them... Been putting that off... so they will be next. The deer should not mind. I had a finger cut inthe pond but not as deep as the main part. I plan on putting a bridge over that finger.... At least that is on this list.

Stan,

Great thread. I'm enjoying your pics and comments. Nice to see you moving right along, and enjoying your place. What will you use the pond for? If you want it for fishing, I'd get some structure in there before it fills up on you. My favorite is to pile up some trees. Stumps, branches and everything on top of eacy other in two layers. It might not be pretty to people, but it's pure Heaven for the fish!!!!

Eddie

Got the grapple hydraulics taken care of.

Are there any trees that you would not put in. I have a bunch of cedar.

Thanks

I have thoroughly enjoyed viewing the "Step by Step" photos that you have posted. Posting the photos in the manner that you are currently doing, aids the viewer in visualizing the project as if the reader was actually there on site. Good job and may all your plans and Dreams comes true.:)

Thanks,

Not much going on right now.. It is hunting season.

I did move some brush into the bottom of the tank. If I do work right now it is on Sunday afternoon. That way my place will have 4-5 days to rest.

Next project is to make the entry gate a bit deeper. I want to be able to pull out with my 20 foot trailer and close the gate without having my truck in the road. Either that or I will get an electric gate opener might do both.

Did you get this one yet Stan ??? Owning your own ground is something every man should do in my opinion. It's good for the soul....... I own over 700 acres in the Endless Mtns of Pa. I know its small potatoes compared to most of those Texas ranches but there is NO place i would rather be on this earth......Hey how about we trade of few deer hunts ? I have blackbear, deer, turkey, we kill a few of each every season.....Take good care my friend and keep the updates coming.

I've heard that oaks will leak tannins into the water over time, and that they can be toxic, but I've also hear that it's so minimal and diluted to be insignificant. I put everything into my pond, and with the water level way down, I've been able to see how the mud under the piles has been dug away. I'm guessing the catfish do this, but whatever it is, it's obvious that they are using the bush piles. I've also found that where the branches are exposed, but still in the water, is where I see the most activity of fish coming to the surface, or just doing something under the water to create a disturbance.

I have almost decided to use some old pallets... We saw something on one of the lake sites that used those to make structures for the fish. I have some on site..

I have used pallets before with good results. Work real good for bait fish hang out, (What I used them for). I put mine out to about 3' deep for the Flathead minnows I stocked, had to weigh them down with some cinder blocks though.
