New built 3pt log splitter

Any abrupt change in geometry of the flow profile will cause turbulence at any velocity. The pressure drop is proportional to velocity squared. If the flow profile changes gradually and the flow remain laminar all pressure is recovered and there is no loss (in ideal circumstances). In real world there will be some small loss. Since elbows always cause turbulence they have significant effect on pressure drop.

I am wanting to take a old fork lift I have replace with a new one. Make it into a 8 foot log splitter by using the lift it is power up and down has any body some thing like that or dreamed of doing it. I have chop saw and all my firewood has to be 16 inch long. For my wrapper. Need some ideas. Thanks CRThomas

It will defintelly work but I question of the practicality of it.
1.) high fuel consumption.
2.) somebody would have to operate the lift while other person feeds the spliter
3.) If you sell the forklift you might get enough money to buy purpose built splitter perhaps even top of the line one.

It's not a practical thing it's just for the fun of seeing if I can do it. I own three log splitters 2 20 tons and 1 30 ton am getting another one from Ramsplitter before the 30th. Put it on my tractor and leave it. My pardoner said to day we have sold so far this start of winter 1500 ton's of firewood. We have two log splitters that go 6 to 7 hours a day 6 days a week. Later

Wow CRT, you do some serious wood..

I'm surprised you don't have a wood processor w/ conveyor setup.....some of these have automatic splitters built in to save the "Handling Time"

When summer comes I only cut to 16 inch pieces and stack I put my splitters in storage go to gathering wood and my rock business. I have a truck that runs pretty regular all summer gathering up firewood and stock piling it. I get yells from tree trimmers and it is already cut to 16 inchs. I have a dump truck trailer and end loader just setup to go get these chunks. My help now is in the quarry getting boulders out for whole sale to landscapers. My driver take care of the bundled business. Delivers going in to town and loaded coming back.

My splitters are electric and in side of building except the one on the tractor my help likes comfort. I could buy truck loads of logs but they $275.00 a load. The other is cheap it free except for my help and equipment. I would have to buy one with a 72 inch throat some of my chunks weigh a 900 lb they make a 3 ton winch grunt. My 1529 MF will not pick them up that's the reason there free.

I have been using ideas from this site for years and thought it was time to give back....not to mention a few people asked to see the projects. I taught myself how to weld this year. My first project was an extra spool valve off the power beyond and this splitter is my first real fab project. Thanks to everyone on here I didn't have to learn from my own mistakes.

I have About $300 in it. It has a 4 inch ram with a prince LSR 3060 valve run off the power beyond. I am extremely happy with it. I haven't had anything it won't split and with this valve it has a fast cycle time of around 11 sec. I found that I really only need the full pressure setting when the wedge initally splits the wood.

I would like to build one of these for my dad. Can I get the plans from you?
Matt

Matt, I don't have plans, I just built it off of pictures from this site and others.
