deutz 4506
Hello everybody, I am the new owner of an old tractor (deutz 4506). I 'd like to ask a few questions about the oil. First of all, what I use for the engine?? and for the gearbox?? I don't know what kind of oil I must use and where ( for example what must I use for the back hydraulic system and the steering wheel system?) Is there anything else in the tractor that needs to be oiled?

Also, what must I use for the brakes: grease or oil?If I choose oil, which part of the tractor is used in order to add it?

Thanks

I noticed that this is your second thread in pursuing answers in regards to your tractor. If you do not have any manuals, perhaps another TBN member can provide you with sources on where to obtain the manuals. Or try EBAY. This website will provide you with specs and info for your tractor. You have to start somewhere. TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors Good Luck.

There is also a Vintage Tractor forum on TBN that might possibly reveal some answers to your questions.

on a piece of equipment, when in doubt, gas or diesel, I run a 15w40 C rated oil that also carries an S rating as well...

pretty much covers all bases ... minimizes wear on startup, yet sill has the protection of a heavier oil in an air cooled engine..

For other sumps.. hard to go wrong with a UTF fluid too.. though in non hyd / hyd shared sumps.. a gear oil is likely ok.

Not too sure if the same thing holds true on your 40 HP tractor that did on the 190 to 270 HP Deutz engines we used on combines, but with air cooling, Deutz did more piston and other lower end cooling with the oil. That's the norm nowadays on all engines as everyone is taking more power out of smaller engines. Deutz says cg-4, ch-4, ci-4, ci-4 plus, and cj-4 oils should do the job for you. Here should be a link to a Deutz bulletin that covers all engines. Yours is a F3L 912. The 3 is for number of cylinders so look at B/FL 912 in the table.
