Weld on hooks for 3/8" chain

/ Weld on hooks for 3/8" chain #3
I was looking for a better way to cinch down a chain and found these on the internet. They are designed for a weld on application so they should be stronger than welding on a hook that is designed to be attached to a chain. They do carry other grades and sizes.

Weld-On Grab Hook, Grade 70, 3/8 | AW Direct

those are the standard weld on hooks that nearly all tractor supply houses carry. .. at least all the places i have visited over the years.... also the ones carried by BigR

When I put mine on both my tractors and my brother in laws also, I couldnt find the weld on and at that time closest TSC was 70 miles away. I just used the kind with a round eye on the end from my local Atwoods. I used my chop saw to cut off the eye and flatten the bottom, then used my grinder to put a bevel on it to get 100% penetration with the weld. I welded a reinforcement 6x4 x3/8" square pad to the FEL that was designed for mounting leaf springs to an axle. This was the perfect size to fit edge to edge on the FEL top lip and the 6" side ran across the width of the bucket. Where the U bolts holes were in the pad, I plug welded that to the FEL plus welded completly around the perimeter with 3/8" fillet weld using 7018 rod. Then I attached the chain hooks. I put one on each side centered at the cylinder attachment point. These have worked well and I have never needed a center hook as some folks install.

Yep, you can use those. Not a bad price either if you can find them local. Or you can modify standard chain hooks like Gary did.

Hey Gary, Did you by chance weld them with your usless AC machine:D

Nope, used my 220V AC/DC CC/CV Miller 350 amp machine I picked up used from a metal fabrication shop for $350. I think my brother may have gotten the old Lincoln tombstone when Dad died. I was out of the country when he died and took me 5 days to get home. By that time about all that was left was a few photos and some scrap iron that at the time I had no use for. The only thing I got was his old .308 rifle with a broken scope and shattered forearm that none of the other kids wanted. It took me 28 years or so to get it fixed by putting on a carbon fiber stock and forearm and a new scope. It has taken me another 5 to zero the scope which I did yesterday. The old 30 year old ammo still worked. It has the price tag on it still-$10.50 for a box of 20.

Yeah standard weld on hook, I've bought them off the shelf and have ordered some from AW Direct too. AW has some great chain accessories you can't find other places.

I have seen posts where guys had not been able to find weld on hooks, so I guess not everyone is familiar with them.

Put one on my BH bucket too.
