Getting closer to decision time re. the new Massey 1643 I've looked at that our local dealer has in stock.

Most all reviews here seem quite positive with the possible exception of some less than flattering remarks about the standard loader. Is the skid steer loader I see some opted for substantially more rugged? About how much do they go for?

I also would like to at some point get a grapple attachment. Is this something that would require the heavier skid steer type loader?

Haven't talked to the dealer in detail yet and thought I'd get some background info here in order to at least look like I know what I'm talking about.

I haven't seen what you are describing here.

But what I have seen is people regretting that they didn't get the SSQA(Skid Steer Quick Attach), instead of the 'pin on' bucket Which allows you to change implements quickly.

As far as grapples, there are several designs.

1). is the full brush grapple(SSQA type).

2) "The Thumb" type, that has a hydraulic claw that bolts to the top of a standard bucket, and can be used for brush removal and such. Appears to work best if teeth are installed on the bucket also.

I have the QA skid steer bucket, and it has the mounts made on it for the massey grapple claw, just add the grapple mount and the tooth bar and ur in buissness. you have to go though a dealer to get the grapple and tooth bar.
But all the holes and mount for the grapple are already on the bucket, no drilling and no welding on it either.
