the slope in this case is not the ground but the gable end of the high tunnel. what i usually do when the ground slopes is put something under one leg, like a piece of wood, to level it. i guess the same would work if the other end is the slope. anyone have any better suggestions? when i first put up the high tunnel i rented a 10' step ladder. 12' would have been better. but i would prefer getting by with my extension ladder. i need to put the second layer of poly on it.

If it's soft ground, not pavement or concrete, it's better to dig a hole and drop the high side in, much safer.

On hard surfaces there is always a greater chance of the feet moving even with the rubber shoes, if you have to block it up just make sure it's a big enough piece that the ladder wont come off easy. and it's best to tie the bottom of the ladder to the base of the building somehow, or put some weight like a sand bag or a heavy pail behind the feet to prevent it from sliding backwards, which is the most common ladder accident.

Usually just a claw hammer is enough to dig in and scrape out enough to level the ladder.

I have a couple of odd angles that I have to change bulbs on and I just put the base of the ladder in tractor FEL, with tractor off and parking brake set it makes a firm safe base.

i was able to make the ladder stable by setting it at an angle to the wall so that both feet and both rails were leaning against something and not moving around.
but as i was trimming some of the first layer of poly it got a bit breezy, cancelling my solo attempt to apply the second layer of poly. not enough daylight hours for much these days.

Yeah, but not a good landing pad. Of course you aren't supposed to fall or jump from the ladder, but if something happens, you're better off not having anything in the landing zone, as it will compound your injuries.

Even putting the weighted pail at the feet of the ladder like I mentioned is not a good recommendation, better to put it on the inside and tie a rope to the bottom rung from the pail or a stake in the ground. That's only if there is nowhere to tie the base of the ladder off to the structure. And again that's usually only necessary on hard surfaces, especially if wet or icy/snow etc.
