I am new to the site and im very happy with the advice Ive seen you guys give so far.
I bought a 70 ac 5 yr old cutover, that i plan to build a house, some cattle, fruit trees, horses etc. I have a JD 310e 98 backhoe I got and it has done a very good job with the 1/4 mile road ive built. Removing stumps and building road bed. I would like to seed about 30ac by may of next yr. What tractor would be best suited for bushhogin,( I think most is still small enough 2 to 3 in dia sweet gum mostly) the pine im able to knock level with the ground its soft the bigger sweet gum I have to dig and some of the hard woods. But I need advice on the best way to get a pasture going ( Tractor and size best implements, any process advice) I plan on keeping my backhoe it has forks so im wondering about not paying for a loader on tractor or even if I still would need 4wd. I need it to serve all basic farming needs to take care of about 50ac after the first job of heavy bushhoging is done. I am hoping for somehting around 20k plus implnts. Thanks, Brian

I would look for a minimum of 50 hp tractor in case you want to do all your cutting, raking and baling for your cattle operation. Ken Sweet

We own tractors from 23 to 85 HP because of ongoing maintenance and rotation. I believe if I was faced with your chores, I would hire someone with a big tractor and strong cutter to do the initial cut then get someone with a heavy disk and planter to work the ground and seed the pasture so you don't wind up with a tractor and equipment you really don't need.

I would then get about a 40-50 HP used tractor to maintain it to stay within your budget.

Might want to finish filling out your profile to give people more info.

im with 3R on this since its cutover land,it would be cheaper to hire a dozer to clean it up an then burn or bury the piles an cheaper.then hire some1 with heavyduty shredder to shredd it.then something like a 7040 kub to maintain it.an yes get 4x4 an fel you wont be sorry.would get around better than your backhoe

Right on brother:D

My 2008 Mahindra 5525 (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto, 2WD, power steering, gear tranny 8F/2R, triple rear hydraulic remotes) with the ML250 FEL (6-ft wide bucket, 2950 lb lift to 10.5 ft height, skid steer quick attach) and a Hawkline brush hog (6-ft wide) ran me about $20K new (just an example of what $20K might buy). You could handle 30 acres with something like this.
