Mowing wild hogs

I agree, I have had deer meat that was delicious and some that was not so good. It just depends on what they are eating and the age and sex of the animal. I have no doubt the hogs would be good, but deer can be also. We don't seem to have them here yet in Southwest Mo. But I bet they are coming. just like them dern Texas Possums (Armidillo) that we never used to have and now are overrun with.

I have eaten armidillo a couple times James and I liked it, slowcooked in its own "shell" was best but bbqed was good too but then what isnt good bbqed?

I've had a bit of a hog problem. They can do some damage. I had to fabricate a hog trap and trap them. I sold some and gave some away for food.

This is minor damage.

I have been bitten/gored in the hand by a feral hog, and the guide I was with has been gored more times and in more places than he can count.

Now, I do have to admit that I was killing them with a knife at that point of my life, and so was the guide. And I do not mean finishing them off after shooting them, just plain old stab to death. I knifed the one that got me a few minutes later, and we ate him.

The real reason was that the guide had dogs, and too many hunters had accidentally shot a dog so he really wanted to protect the dogs.

After I reached 50, I quit stabbing and started shooting.

All of the hogs we killed were trying to get away, but I would still want a gun with me if hogs were around. However, I do not put "hog attack" very high on my list of things to worry about.

Here in East Texas as stated we have a huge problem with wild hogs. One of my Neighbors trapped one years ago and he kept it penned up and fed it corn for about 3-4 weeks. He then brought it over for me to smoke. It was some really good eatin' and the ribs were some of the best I've ever had.

Central Europe always had wild boars. For some reason their population was kept in check in the past. But in about past 20 years they became really big problem. They decimated population of rabbits, pheasant they attack and kill deer (the European deer variety is small about a size of large dog). My brother told me that they are hard to hunt because you can hardly see them. You just see the damage they do.

Friend of mine once run a wild hog over with his car. The hog got under the car and the car rolled on top of the animal killing it. He said there was no blood on the animal so he threw it the in trunk and took it to the butcher. He got a call next day that it was completely useless because the animal was all torn, shredded and contaminated inside.

I gave my dog permission to chase them and she did till the big black one with the curling tusk turned around and chased her. They have never come after me and always run away, but after seeing that one go after my dog I'm getting a little nervous.

Don : I(WE) know you know be careful I have seen those big tuskers kill a dog when cornered.

I think the dog realizes that now and she has no interest in doing the chase with the pigs anymore. I just hope she keeps them out of the yard when I'm gone or sleeping.

Do coyotes eat piglets?

We have some spare Coyotes if you think it will help; hate to lose them, but that's just the kind of guy I am...
