I mounted my new snowthrower to my BX24 today. I have a couple of questions with regards to operation.

1) Is it best to allow the snowthrower to "float", or should down pressure be applied?
2) The thing s basically noisy when it's running. Does this sound normal?

I would think that if you put down pressure on it you would break something. when they are mounted on mowers or off the rear of machines they are just using there own weight to stay down.
They are very noisy to run. All that fan and stuff spinning around is heavy.

Float most times

Down pressure if you need it...beauty of a front mount!

No risk of breaking anything unless you exaggerate of course

FWIW-I only have a rear mount 7 1/2ft unit, but it's not that noisy. Start it up and sitting there empty you here the chain noise and a little noise from the rest of it. When tractor is opened up it drowns out the blower.

The 2750 is noisy. Chain and reduction gears (don't forget to use bar and chain oil) right next to the front end. But running the tractor at 3250 rpm to get the 2000 rpm at the mid pto will drown it out. Also let me Tell you about Bose over the ear headphones, they keep the noise and cold out and let you enjooy your favorite tunes.

This Devil went down to Delaware and this is where he'll stay.

As for the noise...

I find mine really noisy if lifted to full lift

I usually try and lift 4" or so and that keeps the noise down(don't know what causes excessive noise at full lift but does not sound healthy)

float is fine as long as you have adequate traction/chains/ballast etc.

You have a lot of metal to metal contact and it creates noise which is smothered by the snow entering the snow caster and being discharged through the impeller housing and thew chute.

The noise you hear when it is fully raised is the propeller shaft connection to the mid drive P.T.O., be sure to grease it often and lube the chain drive.
