PTO Leaf Blowers?

$300.00 to try one for a week.

That's probably a good way to find out if they work as advertised...
I'm not sure if too many rental companies have them though...where did you get the $300 from?

This is good to know -- thanks! I wonder if we can get one of the blower manufacturers to explain to us the significance of meeting the HP ratings. Obviously, we know that a 20HP PTO will not adequately drive a blower requiring 80 HP, but how close do we have to be? Unlike a leaf vacuum or chipper, the air drag will be consistent over time and I suspect the main limitation of not meeting the manufacturer's HP recommendation is that the blower will not quite reach its full operating speed and air flow rating. But if the user still gets enough air, the blower will work fine. I'm at the other end of the state.

thats a great point,I'm as far from a tractor expert as you can get, but I wonder if you dont get the full potential of the implement or if it taxes your engine. The engine runs at the rated RPM either way....I ran my in-laws Befco chipper, which had a bit higher PTO-HP requirement than my tractor, but it ran it just fine. He did say they upped the PTO requirement somewhere along the line.....maybe to cover themselves.....you are right, ity would be nice to get the manufacturers input....if we pull the trigger on buying one your welcome to come check it out..!!

Im sure the price will blow you away.

I do have a friend who has one and "around $5000.00" was what I remember. He cant say enough good things about it though. The post here has a good point about the deflector chute, the owner of the agri-metal my in-law tried said the chute decreased power quite a bit.....

I know this thread applies to pto leaf blowers but I was wondering if a backpack blower might work almost as well and have a little more utility.
I just recently purchased a Stihl BR600 Magnum and was amazed at what it was capable of doing. It is obviously not going to move as much air as a pto blower but I found it more useful. Although a pto blower might work well on flat areas I had some drainage ditches and areas around the house where a pto blower wasn't going to work. I just blew out about a 1/3 of a mile of leaf filled drainage ditches in a little over an hour. These blowers will move gravel to if your not careful. I know it will take me a little longer to do some jobs with the backpack blower than a pto blower but I can tackle more jobs with the backpack blower and for less$:D.

I have the same back pack blower and a bx2660 with a giant vac 2000 blower($2500) and they work great. it just depends on what and how you blow leaves. I blow everything out of the flower beds etc. than use the pto blower to blow everything into the woods where they disapear in the spring!

If the engine runs at the rated RPM, then the PTO shaft will run at its rated RPM. If that happens, the blower will run at its rated RPM and put out its rated CFM at its rated wind speed. This all means that the blower is working properly and the smaller PTO HP was enough for full blower performance.

...if we pull the trigger on buying one your welcome to come check it out..!!

I appreciate the offer! Please let me know if you get one.

If you are in dairy country, you can pick up a used silo blower pretty cheap and have a 3ph and pto shaft added. My brother has one and uses it on a 42 horse Case-IH 485. It will get rid of the leaves. Does a pretty good job with burn piles too.

Actually, that's a great idea I hadn't thought of. A silo or forage blower does move a lot of air, there are many dairy farms around me, and I know many of the farmers. I'll have to see if any have an old blower around that they'll let go cheap (or less) for some favor I did them over the years.

I had appealed yesterday morning to the Buffalo Turbine rep that had posted here to just let us know the price of his products, but I guess he won't be forthcoming on that. Makes me worry about their products.
