I posted a thread about 3 weeks ago about my DOT Safety audit here in Maryland.

I recieved a letter from FMCSA last week as a follow up. It was labeled as a Safety Audit Failure Notice. I was instructed to send them a Corrective Action Plan. In my case it was a Record of Duty Status and proof of a Periodic Inspection for my truck and trailer.

I was warned if I didn't get this done, sent in, and approved within 60 days my truck and trailer would placed out-of-service and forbidden to operate.

That got my attention so I went and got the inspections done, wrote up a document stating my type of business and agreeing to adhere to DOT's rules and regs that relate to my business. Scanned it and e-mailed it to them today.

As frustrating as all this has been I will say the people I talked to at the MD DOT and USDOT were kind and helpful.

Does anybody fill out and return those DOT forms from other States that you don't travel thru? I've gotten two so far and I'm not going to travel to either one of those states, heck I don't even want to leave the county I live in let alone go to another state.

Thanks

Congratulations , it is very nerve racking anytime you deal with a government agency . My daughter is studying the U.S. Constitution , and I have been reading it . There is a statement '' we the people ...'' , used to be correct . Now it should state ''them and us '' , meaning '' them '' the people and '' us '' the government . '' Us can be very intimidating , forgetting they work for the people . Glad to hear you talked to someone that was helpful , and you got through it good .

You should send them back and they might stop sending them. Arkansas sends me one every year. I closed my trucking business in 2009, they keep sending junk of all kinds

So, with this being said, exactly why did you get USDOT stickers?

So, with this being said, exactly why did you get USDOT stickers?

I started out going with the MD DOT stickers and was asked is there any reason I would go out of state. I thot about it and there are some equipment dealers in Delaware that I might buy something from for the business so I went with US DOT. I'll drive to Delaware but thats my limit, not planning on going to any other state.

I bought something from Everything Attachments and the closest terminal was Seaford, Delaware. I was covered.

I guess the letters I've been getting from other states was promted by the US DOT number. From what I was told by the MD DOT auditer MD and US DOT regs for my business are about the same if I'm one mile from home or fifty. A soon as those wheels hit the pavement you're regulated.

Sorry for the confusion by my statement of not wanting to leave the county but I'm sticking to it because to me there's no place like home.
