I recently started buying work clothes from Dickies (through their website, which has lots of coupons available). They make good inexpensive work clothes. You may end up looking like the Maytag repairman if you don't mix up colors though (nothing against the Maytag repairman).
They offer an "industrial" grade line of clothing for a few extra bucks, and it's worth it. Those versions have things like reinforced pockets, extra gusseting/stitching in the crotch, etc.
I started getting their industrial cargo pants, and they are perfect. In addition to regular front/rear pockets, they have a zippered cargo pocket on the side of each leg, and it's awesome for all sorts of stuff.
Re: chainsaw chaps, I second the recommendation for Labonville -- they are the best. I have their full wrap version. Measure length from your belt line to the top of the foot, and then pick the chaps size that matches that or is slightly shorter (don't go longer).
