I had worn Lee and Levi's for years, but they developed the problem of wearing out the front pockets (keys in one and change in the other). I recently discovered Real Work Wear jeans at Rural King. Normal price is $10, but they can often be had on sale for buy two get one free, so they're only about $7. I've worn them for a couple of years and have found them to be more comfortable and durable than the Lees and Levi's that I wore, plus much cheaper. I also find them to be more durable than the Faded Glory and other private label jeans that I had tried from Wal mart.

Good luck and take care.

Rural King is a store like Tractor Supply? I've not seen one of those, I will definately look into that!

Thanks,
David

Blue,

I do have a real pair of OshKosh Bib-o's and they are a hoot to wear, but they have floppy baggy legs, the denim is not that thick, and I need a place to keep my crackberry...

They are good for many things though.

David

I was thinking maybe the girls would were them on the farm.

I was amazed at the color selection! I can just barely find the black ones in my size (32x34, 33x34, 34x34 depending on the season :D)...
Sheplers is the one place that I can buy jeans time and time again and they fit. The size I order doesn't seem to vary, which drives me nuts.

Duluth Trading Company's Firehose Jeans and Ballroom Jeans are pretty much indestructible. (They are called Ballroom Jeans not because you wear them to fancy parties...)Their not cheap, but its impossible to wear them out. And their commercials are hysterical too....

Advertisements, Radio, TV Commercials - Duluth Trading Company

You beat me to it. I really wanted to try the firehose jeans, but they don't make them for us skinny guys. So, settled back to the Carhartts. Levis? I abandoned them years ago due to no two pairs being the same size and colon coverage in the back failing at the top corners of the pockets.

Duluth has a..... interesting..... advertising campaign, for sure.

I'm a Levi 505 guy. I don't even want to get into the whole outsourcing an American Icon thing...it's a sore subject with me. Anyway..... I will not work in a pair of $40 SundayGotoMeeting Levis, so I looked around and found Schmidt workwear at Tractor Supply:
C.E. Schmidt Workwear - Shop C.E. Schmidt Clothing, Boots, Jeans & More at Tractor Supply

I have their jeans, but like the brown canvass utility one's best. Similar to Carhartt but cheaper in price...<$20 on sale.

I've worn Levis most of my life, then discovered carhartt. but both of them stopped making 35 inch waist :confused2: some kind of conspiracy or discrimination  So they figure if your that size you either squeeze into 34 or wear a baggy 36's.

I found an on line store that still had the 35's (Levis) last year.

Men's Jeans - Levi's, Wrangler, Cinch, Dickies, and more

My wife laughs at me cause I've got it down to a science, knowing the exact model numbers and weights.

I also wear carhartt shorts all spring summer and fall, with those 34" is fine. Was on a job were most of the construction work was being done by union contractors. Some foreman came up to me and told me I couldn't wear shorts on the property, I just laughed at him. Can't wear pants in the summer, I would of had to go home.

Do this for you and your daughters before you get out of that chair.

Try bib overalls.

I have found the Carhart's bib overalls to be my go-to clothes for heavy work if it's not over 75 degrees. No need for a belt or suspenders, reinforced knees, lotsa pockets, and the bib pockets are great for cell phone and wallet (if I have to run out for parts). Plus the bib pockets snap shut, so stuff doesn't fall out when you bend over to pick something up.

<snip>

But girls jeans are a JOKE! they are sparkly spandex and would not last a single day in the field!

<snip>

Thanks in advance,
David

Funny you should mention this as the banner ad for 7 For Mankind , next to your first post, has a picture of a super-vamp, complete with wind tossed hair, stillettos and spray-on jeans.

A bit off topic - I recently was pleasantly surprise both by Carhart and Cabella jeans that I picked up at TSC & Cabella's for office wear. Extremely comfortable cut and nice colors other than blue.

I recently started buying work clothes from Dickies (through their website, which has lots of coupons available). They make good inexpensive work clothes. You may end up looking like the Maytag repairman if you don't mix up colors though (nothing against the Maytag repairman).

They offer an "industrial" grade line of clothing for a few extra bucks, and it's worth it. Those versions have things like reinforced pockets, extra gusseting/stitching in the crotch, etc.

I started getting their industrial cargo pants, and they are perfect. In addition to regular front/rear pockets, they have a zippered cargo pocket on the side of each leg, and it's awesome for all sorts of stuff.

Re: chainsaw chaps, I second the recommendation for Labonville -- they are the best. I have their full wrap version. Measure length from your belt line to the top of the foot, and then pick the chaps size that matches that or is slightly shorter (don't go longer).

I've been a lifelong Levi's guy, but they abandoned me when the stopped making jeans that fit (560's) and got all "fashionista".

I've recently started wearing Wrangler's and they seem to hold up well. Sliding down the asphalt at ~20mph I only got 2 holes in a brand new pair a month ago.

But it gets more complex. I have daughters. They REALLY want to work on many of these projects with me (and that is a blessing and I want to work with them also).

But girls jeans are a JOKE! they are sparkly spandex and would not last a single day in the field!

Even I am discovering that my jeans are taking a beating now that I am REALLY working them. they are getting cut, greasy, and often I look like Mike Rowe on Dirty Jobs.

So I have really two questions.

#1 - Who makes REAL WORK jeans that will hold up to this?

and

#2 - Who makes real Jeans for GIRLS! (as an aside, can anyone tell me if boys size 14 is the same as girls size 14?)

The high for this weekend is going to be 45. the ground is wet, wet, wet. My daughters are chomping at the bit to get working on the horse fence. They need appropriate clothing for WORKING.

Thanks in advance,
David

I wear levis 505 i think and the looser ones sometimes if given to me are 550 i think. I think the 505 are the normal ones.

Also there are some jeans sold in Bailys Online (chainsaw and arborist stuff) called Wild @$$ pants or something. There double knee'ed to last longer like some Carhearts. But you also cant beat Carhearts for durability, they are stiff for a while depending on how long u wear them. Once there soft there to the pont that they rip easy when squating or on something. Carheart makes jeans that look like denim, think its differnt material though.

Get your girls the Wrangler Originals from Tractor supply. Not the wranglers from walmart or kmart if either sells them still as there a cheaper line and have a cheap tag like a levis and not a thick smaller tag like TSC ones.

Im not sure how old your girls are but the original wranglers are tight and look good on a woman but they are high waisted and why my wife wont wear them she like low rise. This is where your daughters age come in if there not a 16 yr old "cowgirl" they probly wont like the highwaisted fit. If they are younger may not care. But if there like most 13-14 year olds they want the fashion which is low rise, i think wrangler may now make a womens lowrise where its more at the hip like the sparkle jeans they get at the mall, but i really dont know as i dont shop for "girls" jeans.

I have seen plenty Wranglers as i went to an agricultural college though.

I wear the carharts that can stand up by themselves, it keeps the pickers and burs off me.
As for buying girl jeans, i have to laugh. My 3 year old will pick out her own clothes to wear and its all sparkly and pink. When she wears her outside clothes its pink camo and muck boots.
You could always buy them carharts and a bedazzler and have them Pretty them up. lol

I wore Levi's for years. But, they seem to wear out easier now, like the material is not as tough.

I have worn Wranglers now for a few years. The material sems tougher; they last longer than Levi's.

I like the Duluth Firehose clothing; I like their wehole catalog! But, I do not think it is anything better than Carhartt or the heavy duty line from Dickey's. I had no problem wearing the pants out... The canvas is similar to firehose canvas, but is imported.

My wife likes the Carhartt stuff I have got for her...

Sacramento may be a big city now, but there are still some good farm and ranch supply places that carry good work clothes, for men and women. Those places are the best for finding good work clothes.

I buy the Carhartt loggers, double knee, and have the "spender" buttons so no more butt crack issues. They are around 35 bucks here, but will outlast any others 3-1. They are stiff until they have been washed a few times. But I don't think that the girls will find them very attractive.

I love my Carhartt jeans, so that's my vote. My wife loves all her Carhartt stuff as well, though she doesn't have any jeans. Can't hurt to give 'em a try and let the rest of us know how they work out! :)

/ Which Jeans do you use? #37
I really like the carhartt jeans. But since I work in a paper mill I usually get what's on sell at my local rural king. I would trash a pair of jeans at the mill in about a month from all the oil, dirt, white water and just plain wear and year. As for girl work jeans I can't help on that.

There's still a paper mill in Indiana? You down south?

I was JUST about to look up firehose jeans to tell you about David, but it looks like someone beat me to it! I've never worn any myself, but I had heard good things.
