I certainly don't believe it was a Tank release? We shot off 200 gallon tanks of halon gas with not nearly that force. It had to be ignition.

that looks incredible,
but the original post at the fj website
is gone :(

question for anybody,
was this a "fire" explosion or
just pressure release from the tank?

i don't see any evidence of heat,
at least it doesn't look like it burned
at all, i would imagine that type of
explosion would set all the plastic parts
etc on fire,

There was just enough fuel to explode but not enough to burn.

I was working on a pipeline station commissioning a compressor many years ago. The control equipment was in a small building (size of a bigger garage) so it was quite crowded when all of us were working there. One day in the morning just when we gathered inside the entry door flew in and smashed us on one pile by the wall. The window was blown out. All of us run outside and saw large steel building with walls folded like a flower. Its roof was lying on the ground several hundred feet away. In the middle was standing a guy shaking uncontrollably still with his cigarette in his mouth and lighter in his hand.
Investigation revealed that there was small gas leak just under the building. There was just enough gas to explode but not burn. The guy was not hurt.

Twas only a Jap Toyota anyway.....

Does this mean you're going to sell your two Japanese Kubota's and buy an American brand?

...

The guy was not hurt.

I guess it's true that God protects fools and drunks.

Acetylene is probably the most likely to explode. Its explosive air to fuel mix range is one of (if not the) widest of any gas. I believe its range is from 8% to 87% or so. The range for most gasses is around 10% to 30%. So it is very easy to make it explode.

In fact the explosive range is 2.5 to 82%. So if you smell it it can explode.

My welding gas shop will not let you load bottles into anything but a pickup or van with renting windows. I have seen home owners pull up in Nissan maximas, pull an 80cf bottle out of the trunk and ask to have it filled. The shop declines them service and will offer to deliver the full tank for $10.00 but will not allow them to load in the trunk. I had a dive tank blow a pressure relief valve in my ford explorer years ago, the relief port was facing a window when it popped. Blew out the glass it popped with so much for e. compressed gas is not a toy
